Name the Eveready cat.
self ^

Posted on 10/17/2022 6:32:43 PM PDT by algore

I recently found a black cat with a little white patch hiding (and starving) in my laundry room.

It looks exactly like the Eveready 9lives cat.

I sent a request to Eveready to see what the name of the cat was.

Not surprised they had no name for it. Some 20 years ago I called Quaker Oats and asked who was on the container of oatmeal. “A Quaker man” was the answer. No name given.

Sounds like its ev’r Red E. Cat.

Good little bit of irony to just call him “Red”.

Wow, Eveready is among the oldest trade names in America. It dates back to 1905.

Originally it was Ever Ready.

It doesn’t matter what you call it.

Indeed. Naming cat is the height of optimism.

Find out what he likes to eat best. A good treat that he really wants.

Decide on your name.

Say the name loudly in front of him just before you give him the treat.

After a few times, say the name when he’s not present. If he comes, give it to him. If he waits, put it back.

He’ll come.

I always raised my kittens like dogs when I was growing up. If you do, they act like dogs, to a point.

We have some Christmas napkins with a yellow lab cartoon on them. He’s sitting next to a Christmas tree with some damage. The napkins say “My name is No-No-Bad-Dog, what’s your name?”

When we had three feral kittens on our back screen porch, we bought a medium sized dog house, and put one of these heated pads on the floor inside. We got another gizmo from Amazon that you plug into an electrical outlet, then we plugged the mat into the gizmo. When the temperature fell to a certain level, the mat turned on. (I think the gizmo is for chicken farming or something.) They were cozy and happy. Then we brought them all inside and they were cozier and happier.

I built a duplex for these cats, two long 12x12x30 cardboard boxes side by side with the end cut out for the entrance, those two boxes were put tightly inside of another cardboard box which was then surrounded by 4 inches of styrofoam on the sides, roof and back, and that was all fit tightly into another cardboard box.

The 12x12 heated pads are in the far back and run 24 hrs a day at 25 watts each, the insulation makes any wall/ceiling contact comfortable and it all has the effect of making that end of the boxes always warm like in a house. The 18-inch landings toward the large entrances are self-heating pads and allow the cats to control their comfort level by laying on the landings or curling up in the heated rear.

I also use a temperature plug adapter for the electric water bowl (non-freezing), the socket comes on at 35 degrees and switches off at 45 degrees.

That large pad you chose for inside a doghouse was a very good choice and setup for 3 strays that will huddle.

Sounds great! Before we went the pre-made dog house route, we checked out different options online and there were so many creative and effective ways to go. Bless you for the care you took with the kitties!

There goes Cinnamon, the Pancake Bunny.
He’s been invited to the White House tovwork as Assistant Bunny Security Guard, since the Easter Bunny made such a great impression on the president.
“Where are all the Bunnies at?” Joe keeps asking Jill.
