As the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) say they hope their offensive reaches the city of Kherson by this winter, Russia continues preparation for a massive counterattack which could begin as early as next month. The results of that battle are likely to be bloody and destructive, but unlikely to settle the war one way or the other.

It’s like 1939/40 all over again.
Standby for false flag...
I wish we had spent the $85 billion in the US on our border.
That builds an entire wall, hires more BP agents, and gets them a bunch of tech.
The National Guard should be mustered as well.
Energy needs to be addressed, as well as critical manufacturing.
We need new nuclear plants.
No. Mud and cold always favor the defenders. Because they don’t have to march or camp.
“ I was also told ukraine would end the war in 30 days.
Twice at different times.”
Yeah, and I heard that Bigfoot had Elvis‘s baby. Unbelievable statements from unreliable sources are plentiful. And meaningless.
Logistics AND logic as well, so it appears.
Bingo!
I keep reading about how Vlad the Invader supposedly can turn things around with a full mobilization. But, if the Russian MOD can't train and equip the current levies adequately, it is simply absurd to believe that they could adequately organize, train, and equip a million-man draft.
But now, Russia is a kleptocracy without the restraining/motivating force of ruthless kommissars to keep it in check. Especially after the losses to their contract forces, what's left is like what they had in 1941. I don't see how you fix that without a full-on mobilization/national commitment.

Well, they were Zeepers…
Boy that’s a fact.
Border wall.
Nuke plants, based on a standardized design.
And California desperately needs a reliable fresh water supply.
80% of our water goes to agriculture which the rest of the country relies upon.
I’ve heard that decades ago an undersea pipe from the Columbia river was proposed. It would collect water at the river mouth and bring it down to California to hook up with our aqueduct system.
—> It was all an illusion,
If you believe the ukie propaganda, sure
—> 8 months later the broken Russian military is hoping to overwhelm its neighbor with Stalin-type fighting, masses of sacrificial cannon fodder, and mass destruction.
Stay tuned and we’ll see.
At some point desalinization makes sense. Involve government funds if need be.
Way better use of money than a high speed rail...
Yet 8 months later we are talking about whether the Russians can correct their problems and launch a successful counterattack in an invasion that was supposed to have not even developed into a real war.
If the coverage had been fake, then we would not be having the situation that Russia is in today.
It wasn’t long ago that a California reservoir was drained because the security cameras picked up a teen pissing into the water.
I can understand why someone would see it that way - lots that's true. I don't see it as inclusive of all facts though, so we will disagree and I'm comfortable watching how it unfolds.
If the coverage had been fake, then we would not be having the situation that Russia is in today.
I will disagree with your conclusion here also.
It has not been a static situation. The US has flooded the zone with weapons, money, military contractors, air defense systems, intelligence targeting, etc. Also, there is the continual threat that NATO will get involved with it's own troops too. Putin must cope with all these things and not lose.
Since I do not know his mind, again, I won't reach your conclusion until we see more unfold.
Welcome to FR.

After reading the article (violating Freeeper Rule #1, “Never read the post before commenting”), was anything in it about fighting in winter, or was it just Daniels summary of how he thinks the war is going so far? This is not the mythologized Russia of World War II and the Cold War anymore. Winter favors neither side. The side that is least disadvantage is the one better equipped for the weather. When freshly mobilized Russian troops are arriving in Ukraine without training or gear, Russia is setting itself up for any winter offensives their command may be planning.
