A Winter War In Ukraine Favors Russia And Will Be Bloody
19FortyFive ^ | 10/14/2022 | Daniel L. Davis

Posted on 10/15/2022 7:56:05 AM PDT by whyilovetexas111

As the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) say they hope their offensive reaches the city of Kherson by this winter, Russia continues preparation for a massive counterattack which could begin as early as next month. The results of that battle are likely to be bloody and destructive, but unlikely to settle the war one way or the other.

Winter war does not favor RuSSia. What a silly thing to say.

RuSSian soldiers are publicly stating to their friends and families they don’t even have socks, food, or supplies.

Well, the headline’s 50% correct - it will be bloody.

How vulnerable are these old tanks to cheaper older weapons like the RPG and LAWs, or whatever is cheap and plentiful?

[It is Vietnam 2.0 - except this time the Russians, not the Americans, are the occupying army and the Ukrainians are much better armed and organized than the Vietnamese ever were.]

Actually, the Ukrainians are less well-armed* but much better organized than the NVA. But then the Russians are also less well-armed and less organized than the US. And the Russians lack a large and well-motivated local ally - South Vietnam held up for 2 years after the withdrawal of US troops, losing 250K men in a decade of war. The occupied Ukrainian territories would collapse overnight if Russian troops withdrew.

But ultimately, reading this essay is a waste of time. The Charles Lindberghs of our time, the enablers of foreign imperialist warmongers, Rand Paul and the Koch Brothers**, are behind Defense Priorities Institute. The people there are pamphleteers and polemicists promoting aggrandizement and territorial gain for the world’s tyrannies, not intellectuals in a search of truth. A more accurate though less mellifluous name would be Charles Lindbergh Institute.

* Russia provided late model jet fighters, tanks, artillery and antitank weaponry to North Vietnam. With the exception of MLRS launchers and ATGM’S, almost no current equipment is being provided to Ukraine.

** The Koch Brothers have financial interests abroad and are aggressive lobbyists for those interests, being almost the last American firm to depart Russia despite significant pressure from US public opinion.

The Koch brothers not only boycotted Trump’s campaigns, they are heavy funders of his critics. They understand that Trump’s attitude towards America’s enemies is to flatter them while smacking them with a two by four. That clashes with the Kochs’ China and Russia First, free trade, open borders beliefs.

Ukraine already won by defeating the paratroopers and column of tanks sent to capture Kyiv in February. That ended any chance of Ukraine becoming a Muscowy vassal state.

It already won back areas to the east of Kharkiv

It may very well get kherson before winter.

Ukrainians have been destroying newer models with Carl-Gustaf recoilless rifles with $500 ammo.

Sigh, this is a war between Putin and Ukraine.

Ukrainians aren’t fighting for the west. Ukrainians are fighting for their homes and loved ones against the invader

The thing is that Putin has cons said that Ukraine is an illegitimate country and should not exist as an independent state.

Giving up some land like Crimea or the DPR and LPR didn’t satisfy putin. He came back for more.

And he came back for all of Ukraine with his attack on Kyiv.

This is exactly the Sudeten situation all over again. The Ukrainians know that if they let Putin get away with it today then in 8 years he or his succeill be back to grab more land.

Ampu “I expect Russia to push toward the Dnieper River”
You are 7 months too kate.

Everyone thought that in March.

Now the Ukrainians are pushing east.

“as if the Ukrainians are unfamiliar with what winter is like in their own country.”
Yes, that is hilarious.

The putinistas forget that Russia invaded Ukraine

“ It Russia versus the EU (aka Fourth Reich), and the Ukrainians are more than happy to be cannon fodder for the Reich.”

BS.

The best line I heard from a Ukrainian about that came early in the war. They said “Some people say we will fight to the last man for Europe. That is wrong. We will fight to the last man for Ukraine.“

“ I expect Russia to push toward the Dnieper River.

I expect Ukraine to fold like a cheap suit unless NATO foolishly gets involved.”

That’s what people said a few days into the war. Check your calendar.

So by your logic the Russian federation should go as well.

Remember that the present Russian federation is legally the successor state to the USSR hence its UN seat.

But the USSR legally declared that it was not a successor state to the Tsardom of Muscowy.

Hence Russian federation is just over 105 years old. And considering Ukraine had it’s own un seat since 1945, it is only slightly younger.

Plus both countries have declining populations and can ill afford to keep feeding their young men into a meatgrinder.

UKraine will decline to 30 million by 2050 with Russia around 110 million.

“ Russia is fond of targeting all the private mercs from different countries, and they have been. You won’t hear it from our media.”

I seem to remember some Russian mercenary‘s finding out the hard way that Trump meant business.

And you didn’t hear that from our media either. But it’s one of the reasons that Russia didn’t invade Ukraine when Trump was in office.

That was then, this is now.

“If you have adequate winter clothing,”
That’s the thing, the Russian army hasn’t got these for its troops.

Strange but true.

In 1940 they weren’t adequately dressed for the war sith Finland and died in the cold.

“Ukraine will be ground up for proxy war against Russia. Germany will be next”

Sigh, the Ukrainians aren’t fighting for Joepaedo or Zelensky. They are fighting for their homes and loved ones.

And between Germany and Ukraine there are a few other countries

The Ukrainians remember the past. If they surrender to Muscowy they will be slaughtered anyway. So die fighting
