As a prepper, you might sometimes need to look more intimidating, such as when you’re trying to scare off a potential attacker.
Even under normal circumstances, you can benefit from knowing how to look intimidating, like if you want to be taken seriously at work. (h/t to TheSurvivalMom.com)
Body language and how it affects how people perceive you You’re always communicating, even if you’re not saying a word to another person.
Consciously or unconsciously, you say things through your gestures, movements and facial expressions. Other people also perceive attitudes, personality and character qualities from these actions.
In fact, nonverbal communication holds tremendous sway in your communications with other people. If you’re talking to someone, tilting your head to one side or leaning in indicates interest.
If your arms are crossed, you will seem defensive while nail-biting can signal nervousness and anxiety.

As long as you can actually back it up and you’d better be ready. This is actually rather dangerous advice in certain situations though there is some truth to it.
Please see nononsenseselfdefense.com where an expert on this subject, Marc McYoung, can teach us how to not get killed trying this.

Chambering a round and giggling is body language, isn’t it?

Situational awareness, head on a swivel , I make it a habit to eyeball everybody , I carry a large lock blade knife with a hardened pointed grip(good for throat punches) and I wear steel toed sneakers.(steel toed work boots in winter.) When I was in my late teens and early twenties I studied karate. Almost made it to black belt but booze, drugs and girls and ''the wrong crowd'' got in the way.... ah, youthful foolishness... I walk out my front door as if I'm going on patrol. To me life is a daily battle of sorts. My wife carry's mace. She and her son had a car alarm install business years before I met her and she had a pistol permit(this is NJ). She never renewed it when they sold the business. I'm trying to get her to get another permit. It's such a hassle in the state to get one.

To me it's looking like a bigger predator than the predators. Not sure the article has that great of advice. Contrary to the article something that has worked for me is having "the look" while walking slowly with hands in pockets. People will get visibly worried at that - like I'm about to produce a bomb or something.

One time my work took me to Detroit, and I found myself walking the streets on a weekend as the only white guy in sight.
There I was, photographer vest, sunglasses, walking confidently. The black guys hanging on the corner would call out to me “hello officer!”, and I would nod and keep walking, projecting an attitude of “It’s all cool, just passing through”.
And yes I did have my gun under the vest.

I would say giving others advice defeats the intent of not concerning yourself with others ‘apparel’. Just saying. Don’t mean to be disrespectful.

Good story. I’m sure it helps your confidence to actually have that gun under your vest.

[[I never keep my hands in my pocket.]]
In winter, I walk with my hands in my coat pockets. And my gun in my right hand pocket.
The fastest draw is already having it in your hand.

My daughter once dated a lad whose father was a cop. He was very nice, but at group events (think parties) he didn’t mingle very easily. He had his SA on all the time. I always wondered if he enjoyed himself at those things. He sure didn’t seem to like it. He was very approachable when it was just us parents with our kids, but groups bigger than 6 or 7 made his training kick in.

Participation in a topic raised by another is not intrusive.
The topic is common sense safety. Which do you think is sounder advice:
Barking out something, inconsequential to the topic, in an insulting manner, or don’t concern yourself with other’s apparel?
Or the same?
No disrespect felt. You’ll learn. No disrespect intended.

Participation and barking out are all your words. You say, ‘I’ll learn’ . I guess I see a lot of projection.
