College Football Schedule: What Bowl Games Are On Today? Times, TV Channels For Dec. 29
Zubu Brothers ^ | 12-29-2021

Posted on 12/29/2021 7:56:05 AM PST by blam

Here is the full schedule for Wednesday’s bowl games with information on how to watch each game live.

Wednesday, Dec. 29

Bowl Matchup Time (ET)
Channel
New Era Pinstripe Bowl Maryland vs. Virginia Tech 2:15 p.m. ESPN, fuboTV
Cheez-It Bowl Clemson vs. Iowa State 5:45 p.m. ESPN, fuboTV
Valero Alamo Bowl Oregon vs. Oklahoma 9:15 p.m. ESPN, fuboTV

Maryland vs. Virginia Tech

Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa has had a big season, passing for the 12th-most passing yards among FBS players at 3,595 with 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. With the sophomore signal-caller at the helm, the Terrapins have averaged the 33rd-most yards per game at 437.8. He’ll run into a challenging Hokies’ defense that has allowed the 53rd-fewest passing yards per game among FBS defenses at just 219.9 per game.

Clemson vs. Iowa State

It hasn’t been the season Tigers’ fans have been accustomed to in recent years, and the offseason has continued Clemson’s woes as both offensive coordinator Tony Elliott and defensive coordinator Brent Venables have left for head coaching positions. However, the Tigers still look to close out the season strong in the Cheez-It Bowl against Iowa State. Clemson allowed the ninth-fewest yards per game at 308.4 and second-fewest points per game at 15.0. The Tigers will be challenged on Wednesday, however, against Iowa State running back Breece Hall, who has the sixth-most rushing yards per game at 122.7 with 20 rushing touchdowns.

Oregon vs. Oklahoma

Both Oregon and Oklahoma head into this bowl game with different head coaches than the ones who began the season. Mario Cristobal is off to Miami, while Lincoln Riley is headed west to USC. This should remain one of the highlights of bowl season, as the Sooners boast the No. 10 scoring offense in the nation (38.4 points per game) behind standout freshman quarterback Caleb Williams, who has passed for 1,670 yards, 18 touchdowns and four interceptions since taking over for Spencer Rattler. The Ducks rank 25th in rushing offense at 203.2 yards per game, with running back Travis Dye having racked up 1,118 yards on 193 carries with 15 touchdowns.

Each of the bowl games will be broadcast on national television, with all the games scheduled to be carried by ESPN. Fans can stream the games on fuboTV or on WatchESPN.

Yawn. Perhaps the Oregon game would be interesting to watch.

Thank you for posting. Fingers crossed that there are no more cancellations due to “covid issues”

Mario Christobal is the sleaziest coach in America. Once he gets Oregon to #2 in the nation he lobbies Miami into hiring him as their coach for $100 million. Good news for Oregon is they overpaid for this poor in-game coach.

Can’t wait till he loses to FL and FL State and give his lame excuses. Good riddance.

Go Ducks

New Era Pinstripe Bowl

While some teams enjoy the warm weather down South, Maryland gets to enjoy the ambience of the South Bronx.

As there have gotten to be more and more bowl games I find myself caring less and less about each one. Add to that the sponsors taking over the naming so that any tradition in the game is destroyed. Other than the players, does anyone really care about the San Diego County Credit Union Bowl being cancelled yesterday? (Although if I were a member of a cooperative like a credit union I would be closing my accounts for wasting money on a bowl game.)

Maybe I'm just an old grouch, but I yearn for the days of the big four bowl games on New Year's and needing a second TV because the Sugar and Cotton Bowls were at the same time.

I love all the bowl games. Over the years, some of the lower to mid-tier bowl games have been better than the larger ones.

It’s a great opportunity to be able to see the smaller schools play.

My Minnesota Golden Gophers won their bowl game last night. I was up ‘til 12:45AM.

My second favorite team (University of Houston) won their bowl game yesterday.

And Air Force won. I can never root against the service academies - except when they play my alma mater.

Never been a big Clemson fan. So I’ll take Iowa State.

Hate Oregon’s weekly fashion show of uniforms. I’ll take Oklahoma.

And Miami hadn’t even fired Diaz yet, when the word got out they were negotiating with Cristobal.

Cristobal goes down to Miami to “visit his dying mother” the week of the Pac Championship and then the rumors started flying. He went down to sign the contract and lied about his visit then gets blown out of the Championship game.

Miami overpaid and glad he is gone.

"Thank you for posting. "

You're welcome.

A thank you has become so rare on FR. I've grown to expect mostly criticism.

Agree. It’s hard to keep up with the ever changing sponsorship names.

Just locally here in San Diego, people in casual conversation just call it the Holiday Bowl, as opposed to referring to it by the full formal corporate sponsorship name. I wonder if other people in other places do the same.

And if so, it makes one wonder if the sponsorship really pays off for the companies which slap their name on these games.

LOL, they get a wintertime trip to the South Bronx for their bowl game.

Good one, LOL.

Not generally speaking, one wouldn't think so at all. A good example might be "The Bowl Game Formerly Known As The Peach Bowl", which seemed to consistently be a fun second-tier bowl game where a good game was presented and a good time was usually had by all, except for the losing team of course.

The year after it was taken over (bought out) and renamed in a self-serving manner, the game announcers who had been doing the game for years before came to the game wearing peach-colored ties.

All just in good fun, mind you. :)

I thought the Wasabi Bowl was pretty hot myself

My wife, being a Miami grad, and I keep up on football there.

Manny Diaz got screwed over. He took a team that was essentially dead and got them bowl eligible. They beat Pitt and NC State on the way to bowl eligibility.

That really had to sting to find out that the Administration was prepping him for an under the bus experience while he was trying to get them ready for a bowl game.

“While some teams enjoy the warm weather down South, Maryland gets to enjoy the ambience of the South Bronx.”

In 2015, my alma mater (University of Minnesota) played in the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit - only two days after Christmas.

Our charter flight flew us in the morning of the game. We bussed into downtown Detroit and boozed up at a bar near Ford Field. After the game, we stayed at a hotel out by the airport and resumed boozing.

Prior to the game, they took us on a tour of downtown Detroit. I could see that they were trying to make an effort to clean up downtown Detroit but that they had a lot of work ahead of them. While on the freeway from the airport to downtown, we did see a few areas that looked downright crummy.

I also don't have cable. However you could look into Sling TV. They offer a non-binding package, and you can get ESPN. I believe ESPN has the contract rights to The College Playoffs thru 2022. :( I'm going to forgo getting Sling TV this year as I'm going to a local Bar to watch Michigan v Georgia, and heading to Toledo to watch Buckeyes New Years Day.

Good Luck, and Happy New Year.
