Best band of the '70's
Too bad they rode motorcycles.
Molly Hatchet did a great cover of this song.
Ditto. Their first iteration (Duane, Gregg, Dickey, Berry, Butch, Jaimoe) was the best, IMO.
So true.
My fav was “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” but “Dreams” is right up there, too.
Haven’t heard that for many years, thanks.
Two words.
Blue Sky.
Dreams made me think of Stevie Nicks.
I just stumbled across this; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXrb0DU4ko4
It’s not Dreams. It’s Gold Dust Woman — RARE: Stevie Nicks Bob Welch Gold Dust Woman Mick Fleetwood Christine McVie 1981
8:00 minutes of a live show.
I liked Hatchet's version much better, no one sang like Danny Joe Brown (RIP)
Zero doubt.
Love the Allmans but like Molly Hatchet version more.
Greg Allman wrote most of their hits, including Dreams, and was the greatest songwriter of his generation, in my opinion.
I like both versions ...I remember Molly Hatchets most because I am 56, and it came out during my teen years. But I appreciate the Allman version because of the soulful feeling, and I hadn’t heard it until about 10 years ago. ABB was a phenominal group, and I have been listening to the AllmanBetts band-made up of Dickey’s son Duane, Greg’s son Devon, and Berry’s son Jr. and they have a pretty good sound. Also Tedeschi Trucks band, featuring Butch Truck’s (original ABB drummer) son Derek and his wife.
Nice
Saw ‘em at the New Orleans Superdome grand opening, August 31, 1975, two days after I got out of the Navy. The place wasn’t even finished yet!
Spent three years in the South (FL, SC) from 1972-75, right in the middle of the Southern rock heyday.
Marshall Tucker, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Wet Wille, Z Z Top, Charlie Daniels, Outlaws, Johnny Winter, Canned Heat, Pure Prairie League and more I can’t remember now. Saw ‘em all. I’m a lucky man.
Don’t know about “Best”, but they were darn good.
Trouble no More & Statesboro Blues are probably my favorites when driving.
I saw them play in the gym at Stony Brook in the late 70s. Great show. One Way Out was always my favorite.
Two more words:
Whipping Post.
Rock n Roll/Blues perfection.
