Normally August and early September are when sport shooters and hunters head to the range to prepare for the upcoming season, but this year that could be a problem.
Firearms sales have remained strong this summer, dipping only slightly from last year’s record-breaking sales, but the problem is that ammunition has continued to remain in short supply.
“Everything is difficult right now,” Dave Larsen, manager of Doug’s Shoot’n Sports of Taylorsville, Utah, told local news channel KUTV.

Not for real men.
(Yes, I know it’s a target point.)
Where I’m at I’ve actually been seeing ammo not only become more plentiful but also a little cheaper lately...even online.
A box of hunting ammo used to last me 10 years.
Same here.
Needs to learn to draw that bow straight back.
Yes, who shoots up like that, unless he was just drawing it to bring it on target.
Nice rig, though. I've got a Bear from about 1965 or something. Simple thing. I've had it reworked a couple of times, that laminate need to be taken care of.
I remember a year when people were freaking out about getting arrows during a UPS strike.
I’ve seen it a lot. People have to cheat to get to let-off. That kind of motion alerts animals.
Buddy manages a sporting goods store.
Said Vista told them “We are going to be producing more hunting ammo and stopping tactical ammo in August”.
Seeing some of the common stuff trickle back in.
I hate tracking deer.
So no bow for me.
After you find three or four deer with arrows in them by some “real man” who didn’t bother to track, you lose your taste for it.
Sorry to be harsh, but the properties I hunt have banned bow hunters for their sloppy ethics.
I see, shooting along a highway to check arrow mileage......
Up in the woods in Maine I heard a gun dealer complaining about his "cheap" customers:
"Guy comes in here with a box of 30-30 he bought 8 years ago with three rounds left. He asks me, 'Do you think I should buy another box?'"
That looks too big and clumsy to use on a night intruder in house.
Same with elk. I’ve found too many that were lost. A lot of it is due to gear queers getting setups that will shoot 100-120 yards. And they’re usually the ones that aren’t very good at 30 yards. The setup pictured will rattle like hell when released. Quiver not attached to the riser, hard cams, no string silencers. Looks like a heavy enough arrow. Hate those rubber hose peep sights.
BINGO! Wholeheartedly agree. Seen many times!
20 years ago, Remington was doing rebates on ammo. About $9 per box of 30-30 on sale, $5 rebate per box. 30-06 was probably $12 a box. I’d get mine, and have my mom fill out a rebate for 2 more. She never hunted a day in her life.
Over the last few week I picked up another 1200 rnds of various calibers to fill in some gaps.
I spend most of my time out with a crossbow. For rifle, I reload my own and have plenty of components. I have a few 20 gauge slugs left, but not of my first or second choice. The ones I like seem to be out of stock everywhere.
