An Eagle Scout Project honoring America’s veterans is under fire for mentioning Jesus Christ on a memorial in Monument, Colorado.
Sixteen-year-old Michael Carlson’s family has a proud military history. He wanted to incorporate that into his Eagle Scout Project.
He created the memorial as a tribute to his grandfather, who was a World War II veteran and for his own father, who served in Vietnam.

Don’t know why this stuck out to me, but it’s not many 60 years olds having babies at that age.
BZ to the young man honoring his God and our blessed veterans. Never stop fighting evil.
The Eagle scout is 16: born 2005 (give or take depending on the month).
If his father served in Vietnam only in the the last year at age 18 when it ended (1975) then he was born roughly 1957. That'd put the father at roughly 48 when the Eagle scout was born in an extreme case (father barely old enough to serve in Vietnam without lying about his age), making conception age at 47. Of course, the father could be older than that.
Possible? Yes. Improbable? Somewhat. Happen enough times with men in his generation to be not unheard of? Yes, particularly if he married a PYT, again something that happened a lot in his generation.
I worked the polls for the NJ primary election the other day. The polling place is in the fellowship hall of a small church. On and around the entry door is a painting of Jesus and little children with the appropriate Bible verse.
It is only a matter of time until some newly-arrived RAT voter (the long time residents don’t seem to have a problem with it) complains that Jesus make him/her feel uncomfortable and church is not appropriate for a polling place.
They have an absolute right to ho or God and Christ. Last I checked this is still a free country with the right to free speech. Hope the kid sues the jersey trying to I timidity and bully him. From the article it appears the plot is private, not gov owned, so the kid can is within his rights un,ess im Not reading the article right
Honoring Mo, Satan or Nazis would have been just fine.
That's probably the only way to stop these type of Free Speech violations.
Not that improbable to me. My father was 66 when I was born.
What was it now, “Brave, Clean, Reverent”?
You forget (maybe) that there is adoption and 2nd marriages etc. as another explanation. However a brief bit of research opened my eyes about marrying PYTs! It was only LAST YEAR (2020) that the last recorded US Civil War Widow passed at age 101. Helen Viola Jackson died on 16 Dec 2020, the widow of Union Army Private James Bolin of the 14th Missouri Cavalry. Volunteered by her father to help the 93yo Bolin with his chores going to and from school, Bolin didn’t want to accept charity so he decided to ask the 17yo Jackson to marry him in order to provide for her future and for her to collect his Union pension. Bolin died in June 1939. Jackson never remarried, didn’t have any children, and also never collected her husband’s pension. How is this for TRADITIONAL MORALITY on both parties!!!
As for Michael Carlson and his project, he is yet another victim of this ravening CANCEL CULTURE! Militant religious fanatics in the Church of Atheism cannot tolerate their NON_G-d to be mocked! Stick to your guns Mike!
I have problems with the "morality" of bold-faced lying about their relationship to get government money to pay her 70+ years for taking care of him.
I’m sorry but The Boy Scouts of America no longer exists.
This NY Post article that I excerpted from has the specific statement that she NEVER COLLECTED on his pension. Also in the article was that she never acknowledged the marriage until 2017 AND, as shown by her name, never took his name. Since the story was based upon a statement from the "Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War", I would assume that they may have done some validation of the facts there.
If it were that she was collecting a pension, I would NOT have made my statement about morality. Given that I did include that 'no pension' status in my original post, I stand by the communicated facts.
Probably true, but my second daughter was born when I was 60 and my second son born when I was 62. Lot to be said for late-life children!
Served in Vietnam 1966-7
The Eagle Scout is 16.
His dad is in his 60’s now, 16 years ago he was in his 40’s. I know of several of my friends having kids (mine are mid- to late- teens thank God).
My point is that even if Dad was 49 years old 16 years ago - he still would not have been a Vietnam Vet.
Unless maybe he volunteered at age 17.
To steal a line from South Pacific, “When I was in my mid-50s, I did not consider myself ‘through.’”
I couldn't believe it, but they had the gall to censure that saying! The actual Southern phrase I've been hearing all my life is "If the Good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise." They even tried to take God out of an old Southern saying that has been around since the dawn of time.
