Popular YouTuber Kentucky Ballistics nearly lost his life after his Serbu .50-cal rifle explodes due to a 'hot round' during a recent test. YouTuber Scott Allen DeShields Jr., better known as Kentucky Ballistics, is all about going big. With more than 1.5 million subscribers, he frequently shoots .500 S&W Magnums, .50 cals, and even elephant guns. However, during a recent test, he nearly died when his Serbu .50-cal rifle exploded due to a “hot round.” .50-Cal Rifle Explodes During Test

Seeing a lot of hate for Serbu here. It was not the rifles fault. The threads of the end cap of an RN50 rifle are rated to withstand firing pressures up to 65,000 psi. The way the end cap sheared off the receiver would have to have been 85,000-90,000 psi. The round either A:had a double charge, or B: unstable powder due to being my age.
Mark Serbu released a brief on it, Ian Mccollum of forgotten weapons did a 30 minute video on it.
Scott doesn’t play with guns. He’s a professional with a law enforcement background.
Im gunna guess it was a reload.
I was unaware they ever stopped. I watch Brandon Herrera, ARG90, Garand thumb, AKOU, etc, etc. regularly. It’s all that’s in my feed haha
One thing not mentioned here. Most firearms are designed with a fail safe mechanism to deal with a catastrophic failure. It allows for the overpressure gasses to vent or explode, if you will, away from the shooter. Mauser type rifles have gas vents. Glocks direct the overpressure downward through the magazine well. This one seemed to relieve the over pressure explosion to the rear, toward the shooter. If someone knows otherwise, I’d love to learn.
I watch the video. I want to know if the round that exploded cleared the barrel.its not clear from the video that it did.
His blood pressure would certainly have dropped but it would be pretty unusual to exsanguinate from a venous bleed especially if you successfully hold pressure on it like he did. The venous system is low pressure compared to the arterial system so a big lacerated artery will bleed like crazy.
I watch his stuff, he’s funny and would fit right in with the TCMS crowd. Plus gun blowups can happen to the best of folks.
Take care HG.
Ian’s take was great.
I appreciate your thorough explanation 🙄
True, but remember Paul Mauser learned the hard way when he was trying to develop a semi auto rifle.
Wow, you actually responded twice to the same message. Musta hit a nerve or maybe it’s your rabies flaring up.
Unbelievable!!!!!!
That was a fascinating video.
Was Takata involved in producing that round?
Looks like HG is now banned or suspended.
it’s embedded in the hydrant
“So? The size of the brass prevents any type of catastrophic failure.”
I guess we can all ignore those warnings!
“Home loaders rock.”
I NEVER shoot reloads from unknown home loaders.
You should probably just swap out humble for d!ckhead.
Like anything,
Some reloaders are excellent
Some are horrible
The rest are in between.
Find the excellent ones.
