Shoppers had better start budgeting more for their grocery bills, according to the latest consumer price index, which shows prices are increasing — and they’re likely to keep going up.
The monthly consumer price index, released Tuesday morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, showed a 0.6 percent increase in March, the largest one-month increase in nearly a decade. Over the past year, prices have increased 2.6 percent overall.
Gas skyrocketed up 9.1 percent last month. Since February, fruits and vegetables have risen nearly 2 percent and the index for meats, poultry, fish and eggs have risen 0.4 percent, according to the government figures.

I cannot wait until my chocolate rations get increased too!
(hoping you get that reference ...)
I was just about to post that the chocolate ration will be increased from 30 grams to 20 grams...
We went out and bought a small 4cyl, 30mpg car because we expect obama gas prices to return.
Started a meat goat herd last year because I expect red meat to become even higher in price than it already is. The left wants to outlaw red meat. I’ll be a criminal. On the other hand, muslims and hispanics like goat so maybe that one will be allowed. Beef and lamb got to go because that’s white man food.
Sometime this year, I’ll have a high tunnel built to extend the growing season two months on either end.
We’ve got one hen that I don’t even feed anymore and she still lays an egg everyday. Need to get some more eggs from the neighbor to incubate and let this hen train them in the art of finding food while not getting killed by a hawk like the other three hens and the rooster did.
Plan on getting a small breed of pig, kunekune.
We were renters in FL but packed up and moved to MO 10 years ago and bought some land, something we never would have been able to afford in FL. Last place we lived in FL, we’d hear gun shots a few nights a week because the hood was within ear shot. We hear gun shots out here too but they’re aimed at targets or game, not humans. Haven’t heard a siren or foreign accent in years.
I’ve done a lot of other things towards becoming as self sufficient as possible and to live as cheap as possible but the to do list is still pretty long. Built a wood fired offset smoker and wood fired grill. Wood is our only source of heat. Wanting to build a rocket stove custom fit to our pressure canner/cooker. Wood fired pizza/bread oven too.
Time to break out the canners and root cellars. If this prediction holds, home heating prices will be up, so putting by a bunch of food this summer will give a financial cushion this coming winter.
The Biden Effect rolls on
> The goobermint never includes food when talking inflation. <
Yep. The Consumer Price Index excludes energy as well. So food and gasoline prices might be going through the roof. But there’s no inflation because the cost of imported Chinese junk remains the same.
Gas is already $4.00 a gallon right now in California - and continues to rise.
Was shocked at my latest grocery bill and there are only two of us (plus animals, and their food has skyrocketed as well).
I see no end in sight.
The media will never, ever blame Biden - as they would excoriate Trump if the same thing happened under his admin.
They continue to blame Trump and will until Biden is out of office, just as they and Obama blamed Bush eight years into Obama’s administration.
...demonrat controlled gov....
This is what happens when Barack Obama and his handlers are in power.
The ethanol-free 90oct premium I use in my Jeep Grand Cherokee HEMI is up from $2.95/gal in Nov, to $3.85/gal this week, and rising.
I hang the responsibility for the coming economic disaster right around the necks of those who VOTED for the Biden/Obama/Rice/Jarrett cartel. You ignorant, stupid sons of b*tches.
You ain’t seen nothing yet. Wait until China insists we pay back our enormous national debt and the government prints money like it’s going out of fashion. We will be the Weimar Republic part II.

Don’t worry folks. We’ll get some of that free government cheese.
I am buying a couple more wheelbarrows today.
—
The thing about wheelbarrows is you can only push one at a time. Worse, is when you get to the store, the shelves are bare, and you have to push the laden wheelbarrow back home empty handed to face the wife ...
I’m a Doordash driver. My Prius is a life saver.
Yup. Half the public can’t connect the dots relating transportation cost of fuel to end product cost.
