Steel Coffins: 5 Worst Tanks To Ever Go To War

There is a myriad of excellent tanks that have been built since the first British MkI rolled across the battlefields of Western Europe during the First World War. However, for every T-34, Leopard and M1 Abrams, there are tanks that rightfully belong on the scrap heap of history – yet instead of rusting away from memory, we should use these as examples of everything that went wrong.

While I am sure many can make different choices based on a whole host of different factors, here are my picks for the five worst tanks ever.

"The year after I left active duty they started deploying the M1's."

One of my son-in-laws commanded M1s in Europe.
His only complaint was the commander's seating was a bit too... close. ;-)

I still think the M-1 is the best tank in the world. Although every few years some military bureaucrat tries to kill it.

The movie “Fury” was as accurate as they could make it, consulting as many surviving WWII tankers as they could find. My first duty station was in a HQ unit at Patton’s beloved 2nd Armored Division which performed miracles under his leadership. 1984 saw the refinement of the M1 Abrams and the debut of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Thank you President Reagan, it was an honor to be with you winning the Cold War.

One of my dad’s Pentagon assignments was the MBT-70 project. This was a main battle tank intended to replace the M60. The MBT-70 never went into production but a lot of its technology found its way into the M1 Abrams.
