Biden and Keystone XL: Destroying Faith in the Federal Government’s Integrity
DBDailyUpdate ^ | David Blackmon

Let’s go back and re-visit Biden’s decision to cancel the cross-border permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline one more time, because it is an un-American decision that has potentially enormous, broad ramifications not just for pipeline operator TC Energy, but for America’s entire economy.

It has kind of gotten lost in the whole media discussion about the decision, but we need to understand and accept the fact that Biden took his decision to just cancel this $8 billion project despite the fact that he made no finding that TC Energy was in violation of any regulation, permit or law of the United States of America. This is a case of a new president coming into office and on his first day on the job cancelling a major project that would account for well over 10,000 jobs simply because he and major donors to his political party didn’t like the pipeline.

VDO.AI Biden’s claims that Keystone XL would be bad for the environment – handed to him by huge Democrat Party funders in the leftist anti-development movement – are farcical and knowingly dishonest, to put it bluntly.

Keystone XL itself would be the safest and most environmentally responsible interstate pipeline ever constructed in the United States. TC Energy had pledged to invest $1.7 billion in the development of major new renewable energy capacity that not only would be used by 2030 to fully power the pipeline itself but also could have been shared by communities all along the pipeline’s route. Thus, a net negative for the environment. The heavy Canadian crude that would come into America on Keystone for refining will instead be transported on rail or in trucks, both far more polluting and dangerous methods of transporting petroleum products. A huge net negative for the environment and safety. The heavy Canadian crude that won’t be coming into America by any means will instead be transported on Canada’s Trans-Mountain pipeline system. There it will move across the Rocky Mountains to the West Coast, where it will be put on ships bound for China and other Asian nations whose emissions regulations over their refining industry pale in comparison to those in the U.S. Another big net negative for the environment and safety. The transportation of Canadian crude into the U.S. by rail lines skyrocketed by 192% between 2015 – when Barack Obama first denied TC Energy its cross-border permit – and 2019. Biden’s cancellation will only make that number continue to rise. Can it be any coincidence at all, then, that 100% of the shares of the Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad are owned by huge Democrat donor Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway firm?

In the short run, Biden’s decision produces very negative consequences for TC Energy. But in the longer run, it has enormous potential negative consequences for our entire economy.

Think about it: What Biden did to TC Energy is no different than if another new president who doesn’t like Apple had come into office and on his first day told Tim Cook “Hey, you know the billions of dollars you just spent researching, developing, manufacturing and marketing your I-Phone 11? You have to eat that now, because I don’t like it.” It really is exactly the same thing.

Pipelines like Keystone XL represent decade-long, multi-billion dollar infrastructure projects from cradle to grave. In order for a company and its investors to justify funding investments for long-term projects such as this one, they must place a high premium on confidence that they understand the regulatory and legal requirements they will have to meet over the full course of the project term. If Biden’s order stands, it destroys any such level of confidence.

TC Energy had already spent more than $3 billion of its planned $8 billion investment in Keystone before Biden’s order, and had already constructed several hundred miles of the pipeline on its faith that the federal government of the United States of America would not renege on its word. But on his first day in office, Joe Biden did renege, not based on any finding of illegality or in any believable finding about potential damage to the environment.

Biden cancelled this major infrastructure project simply because key donors to his campaign and political party did not want it to be built. That’s the truth and we shouldn’t be shy about pointing it out.

That is all.

At this point, no agreement or project can be considered reliable for any longer period than the next election (two or four years max).

How can any long term project or policy be implemented with that kind of short leash? (Answer: It cannot.)

The Biden administration did not destroy my faith in the Federal government. I think my faith started to erode back when LBJ was president. It took a devastating hit when Carter was president. Anything I had left vanished during the co-presidency of the Clintons.

I have lost faith in all government. Sometime in the 2008 timeframe lots of state and county government became “self funded.” A friend who had worked at the county permitting office told me that the inspectors were told if they wanted to keep their jobs, after the bubble burst, that they had to get out there and write fines. The developer husband of a coworker told me that it was so bad he added three thousand dollars to every fifty thousand dollars of cost to cover the fines. Things they used to cite and tell you to fix became instant fifteen hundred dollar fines. Even fully compliant jobs were written up for “some bullshit cause.”

Cops stop and cite people with $200 tickets for minor infractions even when that person is clearly on the ropes. I had a friend get such a ticket, fail to pay because he didn’t have the money. The state took his driver’s license, which caused him to lose his job and marriage and end up on welfare. It was nearly ten years before he got back his license and finally got another job. (Oddly, he’s a liberal who believes in more government.)

Way to go, Warren Buffett. You’ve proved that all the smears on American Capitalists is correct. They are all dishonest, greedy and despicable.

Well, as the saying goes; “elections have consequences”. And, Biden made no secret of his intent to shut down fracking, Keystone, oil & gas in general. Now, states who Biden carried such as Colorado, New Mexico, others, are squealing like stuck pigs, acting surprised. Bunch of fu€king idiots....

No heavy lifting canceling this project on Biden’s part. Gone are a few union jobs in underpopulated red states. We’re reacting to global warming hysteria rather than confronting it head on. Now we’re too far gone throughout the world. The only solution is secession. Watch how many people and countries want to deal with us if leftism is mandated powerless.

Jimmy Carter killed nuclear energy the same what when he reversed waste reprocessing licenses. Although later reversed by Reagan, no commercial entity ever spent another dime on developing reprocessing capability going forward.

This is purposeful phuckery with specific intentions.

Just look at this morass, Keystone gets cancelled, Cuomo lies about the intentional homicide numbers, Hillary gets away with selling our uranium (and possibly the makings for the EMP that could end us all,) and more, none of which will find their way into the courts and be held accountable. BUT, if you or I were to say something that the Cabal “dislikes” well, then, there would be “Hell to Pay..”

Joe Biden hates and will brazenly attack native peoples for his political agenda.

He doesn’t much care for ni&&ers either.

Who talks like that anyway?
