Chief Justice John Roberts will not preside over Trump’s Senate impeachment trial.
If was previously reported that Roberts was eager to avoid presiding over the sham impeachment of Trump because he doesn’t want to become a political lightning rod.
Senate President Pro Tempore, Pat Leahy (VT) will preside over the sham trial instead.
The Hill reported:
A Senate source said Leahy, a former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, is expected to preside at the trial.
A spokesman for Leahy said the decision on presiding over the trial is up to Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
“Leaders have been negotiating all process issues about the trial, and all along we have deferred to them for any announcements about this and all other process matters,” the aide said.
Republican critics say this creates a conflict of interest because Leahy voted in February to convict Trump on two articles of impeachment.
The Democrats announced Trump’s impeachment trial will begin on February 8.
There is also talk that Republican senators may choose a secret ballot so their voting base will not know how each member voted.
If they do that the party is over. It’s already floundering after House leaders Kevin McCarthy and Liz Cheney blamed President Trump for the violence in the US Capitol on January 6th.
The Democrats are also floating barring Donald Trump from ever running for office.
That’s because Roberts knows it’s unconstitutional.
The Senate cannot impeach a private citizen.
Sham trial for a sham election.
Non legal. Illegitimate.
Insane.

And perhaps he expects to hear the case once the legal challenge arrives?
Leahy is as brain dead as demented joe.
Leahy CANNOT Constitutionally preside over such a “trial” there is NOTHING for this incompetent to be positioned as such, inasmuch as there is no Constitutional provision for it— and 2.) he is a demonrat, a politically unsound non-impartial “judge” of the proceedings. He cannot perform this function.
The Republicans should walk out- as should any remaining democrats who do not want the wrath of the public on them in a manner they cannot conceive.
Leahy? Last time we saw him he could barely talk, was wildly confused and an embarrassment to this country. So what do the DEMS do? They trot him out again.
The bogosity of our government keeps going up.
I guess Democrats want to set the precedent that we can impeach them and have a Republican Senator be judge of the proceedings next time.
He told himself. There is no role for him here in the Constitution, as we are now impeaching a private person. And it makes this “impeachment” a Soviet style show trial.
Next we can impeach Roosevelt for interning the Japanese, and Obama for stating the Russia collusion hoax.
The constitution is very clear on this one but the dems don’t care. Again, will the lurking fbi folks get the significance of this?

What irony— LEAKY Pat Leahy— who can NEVER be on the Senate Intel Committee— and yet he will be presiding over things the dem intel committee’s have orchestrated in yet another FAKE non-Constitutional impeachment, which is ALL they ever have had. Plus he is a drooling incompetent not much longer for this world than his friend JoeBama— both of them frauds.

Last Rasmussen pole had Trump at 52% positive and Biden at 48%. After this mockery of a “trial”, I expect Trump to gain more and Biden to continue to descend into the basement, where he belongs.

Dershowitz said Roberts only presides over presidents and since Trump isn’t president (in their minds) then he won’t preside over this.
As an Australian I’m deeply offended by this. :)
