Congress has done the right thing in finalizing a nearly $900 billion coronavirus stimulus package. Welcome as that might be, it is another matter whether this coronavirus stimulus will spare the U.S. from tough economic sledding next year.
Against the backdrop of a slowing economy, an imminent dark Covid-19 winter, and a Federal Reserve that has run out of road, Congress had very little choice but to provide the economy with another boost. Such a fillip was all the more necessary to bail out those millions of households and small businesses now in dire economic straits. Absent another coronavirus stimulus round, those people could very well have gone over the edge at yearend.
However, it would be a mistake to think that this package will spare us from tough economic times in the months immediately ahead. It would also be a mistake to think that this time will be different and that down the road the very high rate of indebtedness exacerbated by the pandemic both at home and abroad will not cause serious U.S. and world financial problems.

The federal government hands out money it does not have, thus increasing the money supply and reducing the purchasing power of currency. This creates the illusion of prosperity as the numbers go up.

Here is what I think went down. Trumps stern hand on China was puting them in a big bind. I believe the IC knew that if it continued under another Trump administration , a kinetic war with China was quite possible, possibly with them being allied with Russia, Iran and possibly others. This is why the IC was involved in getting Trump defeated. I also think other people in congress was aware of the same thing. So under Biden we kick the can down the road for a few more years to avert this kinetic war but in time it will be coming. When Trump would inform the American public about how strong our military is, he was also sending a message to our enemies. No doubt we are at war with China, it’s just that the shooting had not started yet. 4 More years of Trumps restrictions on Chinese imports could have made that happen earlier than what will happen eventually. I could be completely wrong, but I don’t think so.
So Govt prints money, we buy Chinese junk at Walmart, China gets the money and loans it back to the Govt w/ interest.
