I got a call from my son in Calif about 1 pm Tuesday. He was listening to police scanner.. said a fire was coming my way... didn't make sense, this area has never had a fire. It's the city!
I went outside in our beautiful peaceful Sr. retirement village to a bank of thick smoke and saw a raging fire. It seemed 10 miles away. The wind was whipping in every direction and took me off my feet several times.
I've been through this before living in the woods of No. Calif. I was prepared then. This home was in the city... I prepared for that. Not for this.
I immediately ran to the neighbors homes to warn them. They mocked me. No one would budge. I tried to water my house and house next door who were gone camping. NO one ever warned anyone. There was NOTHING on local radio and TV. NOTHING.
Was I being silly? I am disabled and in pain, not to mention being 70 years old and weighing 95 lbs. So I decided to grab Bugs the cat and what I needed for 2 or 3 days of evacuation. The cat can't go to a shelter. I was met with a 4 lane wall of evacuees when I tried to get on the main street. It took me 5 hours to drive 25 miles. Finally spent the night in the car in a parking lot in Rogue River, Oregon, then drove to a friends where I can stay a few days near Eugene, Or.
On my way, the manager of our park called to say my home was gone. Nothing left. Only 5 of 55 homes were standing. No firefighters were available, but the manager finally got there and got the people to leave. I had called him first and he was stuck in evacuee traffic. He had no warning either. 100 old people plus several more parks were left to burn with NO warning, but he finally got them all out. We have no rentals in this area, no motel room left, one full shelter, and NO one is providing any assistance to anyone.
I got out with the clothes on my back and Bugs the cat.
It looks like Dresden. But the insult of losing everything isn't enough. I remembered Facebook and the pictures of my ancestors and long gone family was still there!! I tried all night.. no facebook without passwords....I didn't even take my computer. I lost it all.
The post office charges you and demands a credit card to forward mail. My bank even burned down.
I pray my neighbors all survived. But I have no idea where we all will go. You can't even rent without 'papers'.
“The post office charges you and demands a credit card to forward mail. My bank even burned down. “
Never heard of that before and have moved twice in last 3 years...is it a Kalifornia thing?
So sorry for your troubles.
Prayers up. How can anyone help?

How many of these fires are ANTIFA instigated arson?
I enjoyed the really good nap
God Bless and protect you, AuntB!
In Florida we live through hurricanes - but nothing like this!
Thank you dear Sauropod and you wonderful freepers. You will never know what you mean to me. I know nothing more to answer your questions. The authorities know nothing and tell us nothing. My friend is taking me back to Medford to day so we can prepare to go through the rubble if we can get anyone to let us. Thank God for him. I couldn’t tear through that mess myself. I will let you know what I see. Please pray for my hometown. I can’t imagine seeing it now.
Thank you so much,
AuntB

“Phoenix and Talent are mostly rural in nature.”
The rural areas didn’t burn. This went through dense housing.. MH parks. THE city. NEVER has there been fire in there.
Beautiful. I drive I-77 to 81 and through the Blacksburg-Christiansburg area northbound every December.
It’s a place where you don’t have to worry about riots, natural disasters or crime.
Will do!
Keep us posted.
God is with you. ‘Pod
I know. I lived in NoVA for several years, and was gently trying to get the wife to relocate back up there, around the Roanoke area, possibly. Given the current state of affairs there in the state, that’s off the table now. An old school buddy of mine lived in Prince William county for decades. His wife passed away, the election last year pushed him across the line, so he sold his home of 30 years and moved to WV, which is my other Plan B to get back up into the Snow Belt.
My doctor uses Propofol for his procedures. The last two times I've had a colonoscopy, and endoscopy at the same time, I've woken up in the middle of the procedure, and it's always when they're doing the colonoscopy. Must be the cold probe that does it. During that last double procedure, I woke up and said: "I think he's taking the scenic route." The anesthesiologist leaned over me and said: "Pardon me?" I repeated the sentence, and fell back asleep.
I'm due for both procedures again, but have been putting it off as long as possible. I don't mind the procedures, it's just the prep for the colonoscopy that I hate.
“Its a place where you dont have to worry about riots, natural disasters or crime.”
That is exactly how we used to describe my home town..
God bless you, AuntB. Prayers for peace for you as you go back to what remains. I will be happy to donate $ if you need and just let me know how to get it to you.
But calling Phoenix and Talent cities, is a misnomer. They are small towns.
Dense mobile home parks are prefect fuel for a runaway, wind-driven fire to consume everything in its path.
There is some evidence now (and some people arrested already) that these fires were deliberately set. Arson.
Chilling footage.
