Would you ever want to be a police officer, especially in these tense times, especially with minorities and law enforcement?
Having been one for 33 years.
I do not recommend it to any one any more.
Cops are like politicians. A community deserves the types of leaders they elect and the police officers that serve them.
I wouldnt no more live in a place like Baltimore or Detroit than I would serve as a cop there. Well I want to be a police officer in places like Kerrville Texas? Colorado Springs Colorado? Huntsville Alabama? Etc.?
Sure.
See my comment number 2.
Without being specific, where did you serve? A big Red State city?
I have LEO family members and one wrote that cops are torn three ways - they want everyone to be safe, they want everyone to be able to work and conduct economic activities freely, and they want to protect constitutional rights.
Unfortunately, the first one (safety) means, according to the governors of their states, enforcing government diktats that completely nullify the second two. And they work for the government. So thats the problem,
I did and was one for 5 years back in revolver days..the 70’s. But America was still America then and we could actually tell the good guys from the bad guys. Totally different mind set and exponentially more common sense at all levels. No way in hell would I want to now or recommend it to anyone.
There was a time in America when they were highly respected, could be counted on to assist those that needed it and to do the right thing. They respected their oath of office, the Constitution and their fellow citizens. They were loyal, patriotic Americans. Those days are long gone.....they are NOT your friend.
In the communist strongholds, they’ve become nothing but jack-booted thugs....maybe not so much so in small-town America, but things are rapidly changing and it’s not for the better.
Since he lives in Wisconsin, I’ll take a wild guess it is there. 8>)
These days, not a chance.
Reed and Malloy were long ago.
Maybe then.
I know it was TV but still.
My son is headed to the academy when it reopens. Currently doing ride alongs and dispatch with his department. He had worked as armed security at a local university for three years and essentially did everything an officer did. His uncle a cop of nearly 40 years tried his best to talk him out of the law enforcement career, just as his Dad did when he announced he was dropping out of college to be a cop. I have told him whatever career you want will support it as long as its honorable.
My oldest son has always been one like a sheep dog even as a kid growing up he watched after his younger siblings in school or daycare. And would intervene against bullies who were tormenting other kids. He took one into a bathroom and walloped him one day and said every time you bother one of the other kids Im gonna bust you up. Later found out the daycare workers were wondering what happened and how peace came in the center all of a sudden. He says he feels led to protect those who cant protect themselves and thinks being a peace officer is the best way to do this. My wife and I are proud of him but worry like all family members of law enforcement do. We put our faith in God that hes going to watch after him with all the cop hatred out there (thank you Holder, Lynch, & Obama- scum of humanity).
NO, and probably not for the reasons most people think.
They won’t let us do our job anymore.
Hell no!
No, for several reasons.
1)You have to get involved in domestic arguments way too often,
2)Often your only interaction with citizens is with criminals who have committed felonies which leads you to be cynical.
3) Every traffic stop is potentially a fatal encounter.
4)Too many fellow officers would readily enforce blatantly unconstitutional orders.
5)If you are involved in a shooting, people who have the luxury of hindsight and hours to analyze your actions will judge you.
When I was in the military, I got a taste of working in law enforcement from being an Air Force cop. I thought I might want to be a civil cop when I got out, but because of a variety of reasons, I wound up in the fire service instead. Now after years of working with cops and seeing first hand the kind of crap they have to deal with and the scum they’re forced to interact with, I wouldn’t have that job for love or money. All I can say is God bless them all.
I was one for thirty years in a red state. There is not enough money in the world do make me become one today. We aren’t police officers any longer. We are social workers.
You be correct but rural northern wis. is a lot different then the southern be cities
Pretty country, but I still wouldn’t live there. Too darn cold for me. 8>)
I tell every one Wis. is a great place to live 9 months of then year.
Snow birding helps a lot
Never. I have intellegence and integrity. And plenty of productive things to do.
