Defense Production Act: Watch the Democrat/Media Narrative Turn on a Dime
DB Daily Update ^ | David Blackmon

Posted on 03/28/2020 5:02:44 AM PDT by EyesOfTX

Watch as the talking points magically change. – The biggest news on Friday was that President Donald Trump moved to invoke the Defense Production Act (DPA) as it applies to General Motors. Not that you would necessarily know that, since the Democrat toadies in the fake, corrupt news media did their best to downplay this big news until they can obtain their new narrative talking points from the DNC on this particular issue. Because a new narrative is coming – bet on it.

Here is the text of the President’s order:

The White House Office of the Press Secretary FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 27, 2020

Statement from the President Regarding the Defense Production Act

Today, I signed a Presidential Memorandum directing the Secretary of Health and Human Services to use any and all authority available under the Defense Production Act to require General Motors to accept, perform, and prioritize Federal contracts for ventilators. Our negotiations with GM regarding its ability to supply ventilators have been productive, but our fight against the virus is too urgent to allow the give-and-take of the contracting process to continue to run its normal course. GM was wasting time. Today’s action will help ensure the quick production of ventilators that will save American lives.

[End]

The President’s move comes after he had been hounded for a solid week by Democrat politicians and corrupt reporters in the White House press pool about why he activated the DPA about 10 days ago but before Friday had chosen not to target any company with it. Mr. Trump consistently responded that he had not needed to enforce the DPA because so many companies – like GM – were actually doing what the country needed them to do on a voluntary basis.

GM had come forward in mid-March and promised the Trump Administration that, because it had manufactured ventilators in previous years, it could quickly and easily convert at least one of its plants to do that again, and whip out about 40,000 new ventilators in short order for a reasonable price. But, when GM came back to the Administration this week and said that it now only wanted to make about 6,000 of these key pieces of health equipment, would take much more time than promised to do it, and wanted a lot more money per piece, the President decided not to tolerate this kind of double-dealing.

As is his habit, the President announced this major policy move on Twitter:

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump General Motors MUST immediately open their stupidly abandoned Lordstown plant in Ohio, or some other plant, and START MAKING VENTILATORS, NOW!!!!!! FORD, GET GOING ON VENTILATORS, FAST!!!!!! @GeneralMotors @Ford

Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump As usual with “this” General Motors, things just never seem to work out. They said they were going to give us 40,000 much needed Ventilators, “very quickly”. Now they are saying it will only be 6000, in late April, and they want top dollar. Always a mess with Mary B. Invoke “P”.

The “Mary B.” to whom Mr. Trump refers is GM CEO Mary Barra, a leftist clown who has basically run that once-great company into the ground over the past half-decade. As such, she is much-beloved by Democrat politicians and corrupt journalists because, hey, from their perspective, being an inept CEO is great so long as your politics are right. Or should I say, left.

So, the Democrat/media propaganda complex that has spent the past week hammering the President to invoke the DPA against some company, any company, now has a new narrative conundrum. Do they continue to prod Mr. Trump in to more and more usage of the DPA, or do they now turn on a dime and pound on him for invoking it against one of their cult heroes and start calling him a dictatorial monster for doing so?

You can see where this is going to go, right?

Expect to see the new “Trump is a dictator!” narrative rolled out by leftwing talking heads and their corrupt media toadies on this week’s Sunday morning talk shows. It’s inevitable. This is what these people do.

That is all.

Remember, folks. It is not just the leftist media that is the enemy. It is your ‘friend’, family member or neighbor who eats up all the leftist media propaganda and uses it for their daily “two minutes hate”.

These people are also your enemy and you know exactly who they are.

So, the government temporarily privatized GM. Which Article and section of the Constitution allows this? Oh I’m sure the government will “graciously give back” the company at the end of this crisis, unless there’s a new crisis. Or will it.....

One year from now you’ll be able to buy a ventilator in ebay for $149.

Fox news headline: Trump to have GM mass produce ventilators under DPA.
Fake news headline: Trump bullies GM!

After my recent encounter with the employees at GM’s customer service unit in Detroit it is my opinion that the entire management structure needs replacement. It had to be the most incompetent and ignorant customer service I have ever had to deal with. I would not trust or rely on anything they make.

I’m thankful that they are not being privatized to make tanks or fighter planes. The libs would rather lose a war than assist the nation under PDJT.

Oh I understand the law and that it has been invoked several times over the decades. I also have no ownership, customer, or business relationship with GM. I’m just curious as to whether people are understanding the rights we have had usurped by the government.

Ford and Tesla did it volunteerly last week. The big dollar Democrat donor at GM had to be ordered to do it. Tells you a whole lot about the politicization of this.

If you don’t like the Defense Production Act, lobby your congress critters to change the law.

When a company decides to completely change producing a product which they were making. That will require major changes in the tools used to make it and changes in the raw materials used and workers duties that if unionized will begin with a endless union and product distributor “negotiations”.

I wonder if you understand your pompous posturing is absolute absurdly without any basis in the US Constitution.

If you don’t like the Law, lobby to change it but the Law, not your opinion of what it should be, is actually the US Constitution in action

And just what Article of the Constitution entitled GM to a massive federal bailout, on which taxpayers lost $ 11 billion? Ungrateful bastards, by contrast look at Ford, GE, Boeing, 3M all classy businesses that like Kaiser and Ford in WW2 asked what they could do for their country and countrymen rather than themselves.

How much is that going to cost us?

“One year from now you’ll be able to buy a ventilator in ebay for $149.”

And, hopefully, whoever is running the country will be WISE ENOUGH to rent a large warehouse and put everyone excess ventilator in storage for the next catastrophe.

My wife’s family is infested with mindless liberals (redundant, I know).

I ignore them totally and completely; visit as seldom as possible, and remain silent during visits.

"I’m just curious as to whether people are understanding the rights we have had usurped by the government."

Indeed.

I'm a bit surprised that Trump did this. It's a tad autocratic, IMHO.

Regardless, when I first read that law I was surprised at how open-ended it is regarding the government authority to push businesses around.

I wonder if its been restrained by precedent.
