1968 Creedence Clearwater Revival, “Suzie Q”
1969 Tommy James and the Shondells, “Cryatal Blue Persuasion”
1963 Safaris, “Wipeout”, (perhaps more notable is how this song came about).
It was a request from the audio sound engineer for the Safaris to provide a song on the flip side of the 45 rpm disc, they only had one song. They improvised the song and when asked for a name, they were looking for something to signify how a surfboard might crack in two. They didn’t know the term, when somebody in the studio in a high pitched giggling voice said, “Wipeout”. That’s the voice you hear on the track. It received airtime strictly by word of mouth and happenstance, stumbling onto an LA radio station, then took off in the charts.

That was fun. My husband and our 19-year-old daughter, Drama Queen, turned up to kibbitz as I played the songs I didn’t recognize on YouTube. Some of us will have nightmares about long car trips in the 60s and 70s.
Gotta looovve the Sein...
Yes, I just had to pick out a few on YouTube the other day (heheh, I have access to what all the songs are ahead of time!) to lessen my burden.
I think I actually knew all of them, just didn’t realize the name or the PROPER name (”Rhythm of the Rain”, not “Rhythm of the FALLING Rain”!), especially for instrumentals.
However, some of the #7s I really did not know.
Funny story about “Somethin’ Stupid”, which I know thanks to my musician cousin.
He went to the local music store looking for sheet music, including “Somethin’ Stupid”.
One clerk began helping him look and the manager came over asking what he was looking for....
...”Somethin’ Stupid”....
....which my cousin next overheard the manager chastise the clerk, “geez don’t say that here!”
Wipeout was #14 on the year!
