Vanity: Sarah Palin’s Divorce and Things to Ponder
CP

Posted on 09/09/2019 2:54:33 PM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

Monitoring Governor Palin’s pre-ascent to the national political scene was one of the stories that prompted my joining FR while in college. I remember Free Republic being one of the few places online (along with Glenn Beck’s show, to his credit) to profile the rising star governor: her successes navigating Alaska’s international corporate oil scene, her carrying a Down Syndrome baby to term, and before anybody in the media or even GOP establishment knew who she was — her qualifications as a viable for runningmate for John McCain. I stayed up all night before the day of the announcement, praying she would be the one.

Fast forward a few years and I attended a special screening of a film entitled “The Undefeated” - a documentary breaking down the media and establishment elite’s (including GOP) unhinged distortion and takedown of Sarah Palin and their continued onslaught against her legacy. It was directed by none other than the little known...Steve Bannon.

The ultimate thesis of the film being that as a working class American, as a Christian, a woman and mother, as a highly charismatic and skilled politician with a formidable record of executive accomplishment — Palin embodied a volatile convergence of the very forces in our country, which pose not only a political threat to the entrenched power structures of our society, but existential and cultural.

And it was with this insight and understanding by which Steve Bannon helped guide our current President to electoral victory in 2016.

I see a lot of posts at the moment trying to rationalize away the divorce and speculate on the Palins’ personal lives...Some observations may be valid — but these discussions miss the point — which is, that her fate (and that of her family) is what awaits *anybody* who dares challenge the establishment especially on that scale. (At least in term of what the establishment intends!) - We are not even told about the extent to which the media and other facets from both political parties worked night and day to drive her out of office, stoke fear in her family and her community (like the Wasilla church burning), how frivolous lawsuits bankrupted her financially, etc...

If you watch video footage of the sprightly, shrewd, and calmly eloquent Palin in the early 2000s at things like the AK gubernatorial debates and things, one can see just how much of a spiritual and psychological toll all that’s unfolded since had had on her.

This is what the media wants for Trump and his family too...but luckily our president has the financial and other buffers by which to withstand the attacks, which will likely come even after he leaves office...And in the meantime of course they will do everything in their power to drive him out even during a second term.

In the meantime the wolves will attack the emerging leaders of the conservative movement and NOTHING is off limits: families (children!) , homes, jobs, etc...And it’s incumbent on everyone to just...be aware. And to view all this in proper context.

“I hate to say this, but one4perl is exhibiting classic troll behavior, hoping to derail a thread by littering it with childish pointless squabbling in the hopes of making it impossible for others to read.
You’re not helping by feeding the troll.

CondoleezzaProtege said she wanted a thread to discuss the meaning of this news without the sarcasm from other threads, and that’s not happening now.”

Oh spare me - I’ve not derailed any part of the thread, only responded to those attacking my one post that I made about not agreeing with Palin’s quitting halfway through her governorship. You don’t have to agree, but I reserve the right to defend myself.

The n00b poster sounds just like someone who used to be here ( same style and wording ), but didn’t last long.

“Oh great...you don’t know much about McCain either; especially about his stay at The Hanoi Hilton!”

The Hanoi Hilton? You are pathetic, he was tortured. You don’t have to agree with his politics but don’t besmirch his actual service to this country.

“This thread is about the sad news of a divorce. It’s actually NOT about how YOU feel about the person/s involved in it.”

It’s a thread about Palin and how people feel about her - the context is the divorce news, my input was about how I disliked her for something she did and I don’t care much for her since. All on topic. You’re being petty and splitting hairs. Have you seen how most threads digress around here? I’m on topic and you know it, you just don’t like my opinion.

“Neither is is about politics, past or present; though truth be told, politics probably played a part in Todd’s decision to file.”

So it is about politics? And even if Todd’s decision wasn’t about politics, she is a political figure, so it’s all fair game.

“Okay n00b, keep posting garbage and I’ll just sit here and laugh at you.”

Works for me - you keep replying when I’ve asked you to not if you have nothing else to add. You still seem full of steam, why?

Sure, I do it too. Once. Constantly picking at the same scab is just repetitive.

We all know that you disagreed with a retort, because you said so. Saying it again and again and again just to one-up or have the last word is the troll behavior.

We got it. You disagreed. Now disengage and make some new points.

I have NOT seen you be ON TOPIC, on this thread even once!

And as for the rest of your petulant, puerile screed...excuses and banality!

Sad, isn’t it? Some gutter-snipe noob can come in, start calling people out, and they fall for it.

Exactly.

Stubbornly obtuse about:

I have to admit that its trolling is sublime.

The MOD likes him. I've NO idea why, but he's being looked after.

The n00b is looking for attention...ANY kind of attention.

“Sure, I do it too. Once. Constantly picking at the same scab is just repetitive.”

I did do it once, but was attacked several times. Not my fault I feel the need to defend myself. It’s weak to do otherwise and it’s petty to attack someone over and over for sharing a single sentiment you disagreed with, like several have done so far.

“We all know that you disagreed with a retort, because you said so. Saying it again and again and again just to one-up or have the last word is the troll behavior.”

Then please by all means, follow your own advice.

“We got it. You disagreed. Now disengage and make some new points.”

As I wrote above, please follow your own advice.

‘I have NOT seen you be ON TOPIC”

I am still discussing Sarah Palin’s record and defending myself against your insults and attacks.

“And as for the rest of your petulant, puerile screed...excuses and banality!”

Yet here you are repeating yourself, while I’ve asked you to stop doing that more than once. If it bothers you and is off topic, don’t encourage it please. Now you’re the one derailing the thread.

You haven't earned the chops to know what my advice is, or recognize the wisdom of it.

Why don't you respond to my other post? That's filled with material for you.

“You haven’t earned the chops to know what my advice is, or recognize the wisdom of it.”

You’ve given no advice that I can recognize, and don’t think so highly of yourself, please. It’s weird.

“Why don’t you respond to my other post? That’s filled with material for you.”

I read the entirety of it. It wasn’t worth responding to.

This one is a VERY skilled retread.

Jumps right into the deep end of the FR pool, and starts doing laps without breathing hard.

Now you're just lying!

Nicole Wallace's name has been on FR lately! She'/s on CNN or MSNBC ( I don't pay any attention to those channels, so don't remember which and it doesn't matter at all!), so you should at the least know that about her!

She worked on McLame's presidential campaign, did EVERYTHING possible to undercut and harm Palin then and ever afterwards! And according to someone I know, who is a prominent D.C. CONSERVATIVE and knows her...she is person non grata in GOP circles, seen as a HORRIBLE person and NOBODY to work for one.

LOL...now please send FR a $25 donation, in my name, for that info. I don't teach for free.

Well put Political_Junkie! (In terms of comparing Governor Palin’s resume to former Speaker Ryan’s) To add:

As has been stated elsewhere on the thread, Palin had to resign because she didn’t have money to fight back all the high powered frivolous lawsuits thrown her way. She is not rich like Donald Trump. And Alaskan governors aren’t afforded the same legal immunities as the President either. It didn’t help that even to win Governor of Alaska, she ousted the state’s then most powerful Republican: Frank Murkowski. (RINO Senator Lisa Murkowski’s Father) - So she never had the support of the state’s GOP to begin with. She was against them from day 1.

Upon leaving office, Palin’s endorsements and support of candidates like Rand Paul and Nikki Haley catapulted them to front runner status in highly contested races. Rand Paul was in 5th place in Kentucky polls I think! Haley was also behind. Now look where they are!

On her Facebook profile (Facebook was still new back then), she coined the term ‘death panels’ to describe what government rationing would be like under Obamacare and permanently altered the national discourse over the matter.

She was arguably the leading voice of the Tea Party movement which garnered massive Congressional gains for the Republicans in 2010. At the height of the Obama era. The Obama Admin did damage enough but imagine how much more without the seats that were won in the nick of time!

She as mum on Mitt Romney in 2012 as his people were among the many forces trying to keep her down and out of the running...but she was all in for Trump from the get-go and arguably set the stage for his candidacy! We, her country, owe her efforts a huge THANKS. And we see to what great personal cost to her that much of this came.

Cool - I must’ve missed it among the dozens and dozens of threads that are posted here daily. I’m not here 24/7. So she’s a reporter/commentator? What does she have to do with Palin? Now that you’re mentioning it again, it sounds like a name I’ve heard, but there’s just too damn many people’s names to keep track of these days and I’ve got my own life to live besides here. I enjoy politics, i don’t live them.

“She worked on McLame’s presidential campaign, did EVERYTHING possible to undercut and harm Palin then and ever afterwards! And according to someone I know, who is a prominent D.C. You could’ve just written those 2 sentences and not created friction and animosity for no damn reason. That was easy.

“LOL...now please send FR a $25 donation, in my name, for that info. I don’t teach for free.”

We’ll see, we’ll see...
