Monitoring Governor Palins pre-ascent to the national political scene was one of the stories that prompted my joining FR while in college. I remember Free Republic being one of the few places online (along with Glenn Becks show, to his credit) to profile the rising star governor: her successes navigating Alaskas international corporate oil scene, her carrying a Down Syndrome baby to term, and before anybody in the media or even GOP establishment knew who she was her qualifications as a viable for runningmate for John McCain. I stayed up all night before the day of the announcement, praying she would be the one.
Fast forward a few years and I attended a special screening of a film entitled The Undefeated - a documentary breaking down the media and establishment elites (including GOP) unhinged distortion and takedown of Sarah Palin and their continued onslaught against her legacy. It was directed by none other than the little known...Steve Bannon.
The ultimate thesis of the film being that as a working class American, as a Christian, a woman and mother, as a highly charismatic and skilled politician with a formidable record of executive accomplishment Palin embodied a volatile convergence of the very forces in our country, which pose not only a political threat to the entrenched power structures of our society, but existential and cultural.
And it was with this insight and understanding by which Steve Bannon helped guide our current President to electoral victory in 2016.
I see a lot of posts at the moment trying to rationalize away the divorce and speculate on the Palins personal lives...Some observations may be valid but these discussions miss the point which is, that her fate (and that of her family) is what awaits *anybody* who dares challenge the establishment especially on that scale. (At least in term of what the establishment intends!) - We are not even told about the extent to which the media and other facets from both political parties worked night and day to drive her out of office, stoke fear in her family and her community (like the Wasilla church burning), how frivolous lawsuits bankrupted her financially, etc...
If you watch video footage of the sprightly, shrewd, and calmly eloquent Palin in the early 2000s at things like the AK gubernatorial debates and things, one can see just how much of a spiritual and psychological toll all thats unfolded since had had on her.
This is what the media wants for Trump and his family too...but luckily our president has the financial and other buffers by which to withstand the attacks, which will likely come even after he leaves office...And in the meantime of course they will do everything in their power to drive him out even during a second term.
In the meantime the wolves will attack the emerging leaders of the conservative movement and NOTHING is off limits: families (children!) , homes, jobs, etc...And its incumbent on everyone to just...be aware. And to view all this in proper context.
I thought it was one of the old guys. But it signed up about a week ago.
You know just about nothing at all about Sarah Palin, you don't know who Nicole Wallace is, you have zero debate skills, are off topic, making everything about you, and I don't suffer fools!
Go away!
Palin left the govship, for one reason, because the loons were suing her left and right and she had to pay out of pocket.
The problem people have with you is that you are new here and promptly insulted one of the strongest conservatives there is. Further, she was THEE reason people even voted for mclame.
“Okay, I ignored your first two similar, childish posts to me, but here’s the answer to your SJW/snowflake query: There’s nothing to discuss, since you aren’t knowledgeable about the topic at hand, that you brought up and has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the thread’s topic!”
In the words of the Big Lebowsky - that’s just like, your opinion, man!
You calling me an SJW/snowflake is nothing but juvenile and insulting. Pathetically so. Whenever you find an argument, please come back with it.
“You know just about nothing at all about Sarah Palin”
I know enough about her to know I don’t agree with her quitting her governorship.
“you don’t know who Nicole Wallace is”
I don’t - and you still haven’t shared anything about her for me to learn about.
“you have zero debate skills”
You haven’t “debated” me once.
“are off topic”
I’m always on topic - I take pride in that.
“making everything about you”
Only because I feel the need to defend myself from your incessant attacks and insults. Grow up.
“and I don’t suffer fools!”
Good for you - I’d buy you a mirror but you probably wouldn’t get why.
“Go away!”
Why, because you say so? Last I checked this was a discussion forum for conservatives.
“The problem people have with you is that you are new here and promptly insulted one of the strongest conservatives there is.”
I asked this earlier in the thread - what’s the last thing she’s done for the conservative movement? I just don’t like quitters.
Someone seriously needs to ZOT that fool one4perl, all he’s doing is pissing for a fight!
well, I don’t like losers and you’re filling the bill quite nicely. so there’s that.
“well, I dont like losers and youre filling the bill quite nicely. so theres that.”
Thanks for your input - cheers!
And so far - the only comments I’m having to remove are from our established members.
“Someone seriously needs to ZOT that fool one4perl, all hes doing is pissing for a fight!”
I’m engaging in discussion and several posters here (not all) have engaged in posting vitriol toward me for no reason. I’m not fighting anyone, but I won’t let other insult me for no reason. If you want to discuss something you disagree with, please engage in kind.
While I wouldn’t wish divorce on anyone, I can’t help remembering Michael Savage’s comment that the Palin clan usually looks like a bad episode of COPS. LOL
You've done everything in your power to 1) make this all about you 2) beg for info that you should already know, 3) heckled various posters with banal, inane, unseriuos questions 4)called many posters names, 5) completely ignored the topic.
Well THAT is completely different; it being A+Bert and all!
Well, she’s not a quitter - she’s definitely a fighter. But she was very ambitious. The vast majority of freepers adored her and still do. I liked her until I found out she had a newborn. My opinion was that a mother of a newborn should stay close to home, not agree to be the presidential nominee’s running mate on the national stage. And, wow, that opinion wasn’t popular here. lol
But I doubt the publicity broke up their marriage. Their family has had other troubles. Sorry to see the news of this divorce.
Go read FR’s archives.
It pretended to not know who Nicole Wallace is - after expressing an opinion about Palin being a "quitter".
It's very familiar with Sarah Palin's history - except for when it's not.
It was trolling on the Mark Sanford thread, too. Anyone political KNOWS that contested primaries bleed cash from a campaign - that could be used to prevail in the general.
Yet it was blithely proposing to longtime, politically astute Freepers that "principle" dictated a primary challege to a sitting President.
Too sly by half.
“This site is NOT a “school””
Never claimed it, but also expecting others to just know what something or someone they are not aware of doesn’t mean they are dumb. I can google just like anyone one else can, I’m not stupid, but your tone is insulting and not helpful, know that much.
“though by reading the articles and sometimes the comments, you will learn quite a lot about many different topics,”
I’ve read every post on this thread - none explained who Nicole Wallace was, and I’ve learned that Palin quit her governorship because of lawsuits, which explained something for once in this context. It doesn’t convince me as an argument, but I can see why it can convince you.
“You’ve done everything in your power to 1) make this all about you”
I’ve defended myself, never was about me. I was called several vile names by more than one poster here without explanation. So far so good, great welcome, thanks for that!
” beg for info that you should already know,”
what I “should already know” isn’t what you “already know”, so give it a rest. If you don’t want to share and have a discussion and yes, explain things I don’t know about, then please being so antagonistic or at the very least ignore me. It’s weird and constantly insulting and irritating.
“heckled various posters with banal, inane, unseriuos questions “
I’ve not heckled anyone, and everything I write is serious. Being ignorant is not a flaw, being willingly ignorant is - I’ve asked you multiple times for explanations and you’ve deflected with insults. Not cool.
“called many posters names,”
I’ve not called a single poster here any names. Look through my post history, it’s public, don’t lie. If you find an example, please post it.
” completely ignored the topic.”
The topic was about Palin and I posted about her. Your idea of what’s on topic isn’t my idea of what’s on topic, and you are not a moderator on this board, for good reason obviously. Man... the nerve of some people.
You're not helping by feeding the troll.
CondoleezzaProtege said she wanted a thread to discuss the meaning of this news without the sarcasm from other threads, and that's not happening now.

This thread is about the sad news of a divorce. It's actually NOT about how YOU feel about the person/s involved in it.Neither is is about politics, past or present; though truth be told, politics probably played a part in Todd's decision to file.
Okay n00b, keep posting garbage and I'll just sit here and laugh at you.
I would compare her to Paul Ryan, who was Romney's pick four years later. At the time, Ryan was a six-term Representative from Wisconsin (from a district with about 700,000 people, Kenosha and Racine), elected in 1999. Ryan didn't have any leadership roles until after he was Romney's running-mate, except for chairing the House Budget Committee since 2011. Prior to joining Congress, Ryan held various aide positions for Republicans.
Contrasting to Palin, she first ran for office in 1992 for Wasilla City Council and won a four-year seat (Ryan was working as a waiter, a fitness trainer, and other odd jobs). In 1996, Palin ran for mayor of Wasilla and won two three-year terms (Ryan became a speech-writer for VP candidate Jack Kemp, and ran for Congress while Palin was running for her second term as mayor). Palin then ran in 2003 for the Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and won that two-year seat (in 2000, the first of only two Ryan bills to become law was passed, renaming a post office in his district). In 2006, Palin became the ninth Governor of Alaska (the other Ryan bill to become law was passed in 2008, lowering the excise tax on arrow shafts).
I would say that Palin had the clearly stronger resume than Paul Ryan, but Ryan didn't get the same treatment that Palin got.
It's obvious by contrast that the establishment feared what Sarah Palin represented and made it a mission to take her out. It's also what they're doing to President Trump now.
And Paul Ryan became a Never-Trump backstabbing RINO who sabotaged the GOP's chances to hold the House in 2018.
