Peter Vlaming, a Virginia French teacher, finds himself in the middle of a politically correct battle with the Virginia school system. Vlamings job was ripped out from under him after a split second decision to call a trans student her.
The student was reportedly about to walk into a wall when the teacher instinctively said stop her. And so his ridiculous fight to keep his job began.
Thats it stop her, and a mans livelihood is under fire. His religious beliefs- disregarded.
According to Virginia Times, the high school in West Point, a town in King William County about an hour east of Richmond, has about 265 students.
Vlaming, 47, who had taught at the school for almost seven years after spending more than a decade in France, told his superiors his Christian faith prevented him from using male pronouns for a student he saw as female.
The students family informed the school system of the transition over the summer. Vlaming said he had the student in class the year before when the student identified as female.
Vlaming agreed to use the students new, male name. But he tried to avoid using any pronouns he or him, and she or her when referring to the student. The student said that made him feel uncomfortable and singled out.
Administrators sided with the boy, telling Vlaming he could not treat his transgender pupil differently than he treats others.
We do not and cannot tolerate discrimination in any form, or actions that create a hostile environment for any member of our school family, they said in a statement. Mr. Vlaming was asked repeatedly, over several weeks and by multiple administrators, to address a student by the pronouns with which this student identifies. The issue before us was not one mistaken slip of the tongue. Mr. Vlaming consistently refused to comply going forward including in a statement made at the hearing a willful violation of school board policy.
Vlaming cited his Christian faith and told his superiors that he was willing to use the students name and simply avoid using feminine pronouns but he says the school rejected that compromise.
One parent pointed out that the school did not even have a specific policy in place in regard to the use of gender pronouns.
If theres no policy in place, how can they just let him go? Jennifer Haynes, a 52-year-old West Point High parent, asked.
That is not tolerance, Vlaming said. That is coercion.
Speaking in his own defense, Vlaming said he loves and respects all his students and had tried to reach a solution based on mutual tolerance. That effort was rejected, he said, putting him at risk of losing his job for having views held by most of the world for most of human history.
The teacher didn’t want to participate in the student’s mental illness. Amazing...
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Purging the unwashed
So guy gets fired because he tried to help and got somebody’s pronoun wrong, but my kid has a total incompetent boob as a Math teacher who could not even return graded tests in a timely manner (over a month) and nobody could do anything about it because admin did not want to go after an openly gay teacher for a performance reason and dealing with the all powerful teacher union.
This guy should contact his union for help. such BS
The laws and rules of both nature & God prevent me from participating in the feelings and delusions of a few. Reality should top or trump illusion and delusion. I am an individual, I have a need for sanity in my life...
It’s absolutely disgusting somebody can lose their job for refusing to speak the words they’re being commanded to speak
If a person is stupid enough to buy off on hoax A then hoax B, C and D are easy. Hoax A was “climate change”.
He could have said, “Stop that sick freak.”
Fine, collect its DNA and let us see how that test turns out. The school will end up paying court costs and probably a nice hefty amount to the teacher.
Pull a Jordan Peterson.
Go on every tV show
Write about it
Sue their asses for compelled speech.
I can’t say anything. I officially identify as a woman because the school wanted more women in STEM positions.
The 1st amendment is so dead.
Parents, storm the schoolboard meeting. Demand the administrators be fired immediately. If the administrators aren’t fired, recall all the schoolboard members. Elect a new schoolboard, then fire the administrators.
Didn’t meant to imply I don’t know or don’t need to care. Sorry for the lack of clarity, I was expressing wonderment on how anybody could be mystified on what’s happening at this point in time.
Is Virginia French different from French French.
You think the teacher’s union is gonna help this guy?
If so, you’re a) naive as a twelve year old, b) plumb ignorant or, c) still living in the 19th century.
I’d just use a gender-neutral pronoun for all the kids equally:
“Stop it from walking into the wall!”
19th Century was too bad now that you mention it
IMO, we should stop citing “religious beliefs” WRT this debate, because it allows the loons to characterize us as superstitious loons.
We should firmly battle, & defeat, the loons by citing SCIENTIFIC, BIOLOGICAL truth, which is NOT a matter of “belief” but of demonstrable scientific fact.
Same thing WRT abortion: a baby’s life in utero is a scientific fact, not a matter of “belief” or opinion.
Agreed.
We’re definitely devolving socially.
This is what happens when societies turn their back on God. They think they can craft heaven on earth without Him and instead it turns into hell.
And each fallen society seems to develop it’s own unique version thereof.
