Is this a sign of what is coming for the rest of the nation? In Martin County, Kentucky times are very tough right now. Thanks to severe budget cutbacks, there are only two paid law enforcement officers covering a deeply impoverished 231-square-mile area that sits right in the heart of Americas raging opioid crisis. Needless to say, Martin County Sheriff John Kirk feels greatly outnumbered by the thieves, sexual predators and drug dealers that he has to contend with on a daily basis, and he recently issued a very ominous warning to the citizens of his county
Before making a wave of cutbacks across his department, Martin County Sheriff John Kirk delivered a grim warning to residents of this hardscrabble Appalachian community.
Law enforcement as we have known for the last four years will not exist, he posted on Facebook last month. WE ARE BROKE
LOCK YOUR DOORS, LOAD YOUR GUNS AND GET YOU A BARKING, BITING DOG. If the Sheriffs office cant protect you, WHO WILL?

My youngest brother lives in a rural area of Arizona. His next door neighbor has a sign on the fence in English and Spanish that says if you can read this, you are in range .
Nothing new. My town does not have a police force it’s covered by State Troopers that when called take upwards of 20 to 30 minutes to respond.
I live in a very rural area in Mississippi and it’s always been the case that you take care of your own security. On most nights there’s one deputy on patrol for the entire county, the chances that he’s within 20 miles of my home when called is pretty small. I have NEVER expected a cop to take care of any criminal activity around my place, the action will be long over by the time they get there. I don’t carry a gun on my body but there’s always a loaded one within a few steps in my home, it’s always been that way so it’s not like I’m some kind of prepper, I have a fire extinguisher handy too. Dogs are the best alarm system ever invented.
What this sheriff is advocating isn’t anything new, it’s just common sense that has been in common usage at 95% of the rural homesteads throughout the south for the last 200 years or so.
As a matter of fact I would wave all rights to police protection if it guarantees my right to defend myself without repercussions.

I assume you know that the Supreme Court has issued a decision (I forget the name of the case) wherein it was decided that police do NOT have a duty to protect citizens. Seems incredible but it’s true. I assume there are exceptions, such as where police actually witness a crime being committed.
+1
They may look tame and lazy but Molly (the Cane Coral Italian Mastiff) hears for both of them as Savannah was born deaf. I'll swear Molly can hear a mouse fart at 10,000 yards. So Savannah keys off of Molly's hearing and nothing gets past The House with out Notification and the Mailman/UPS/FedEx/Trick or Treaters or anything else that blinks too loudly.
God love them all.
I take it those other images don’t belong ... :)
ROTFLMAO-PIMP !!!
I was starting to get concerned. Then I figured out You were probably checking on the Mash to see if it was time to fire up the burner and wait for the Thumper to start a thumpin’ away.
What others ?
When I clicked on “girls” in your post it showed two dogs then arrow indicating more picture so after three or four I guessed that they might not belong.
And left alone mine didn’t load the mag, insert it into itself and blow away anybody coming to the door.
Has anyone here ever been PROTECTED by the police?
Cop siblings in my family will be the first to tell you that they “document crimes and search for the perpetrators”.
They caution us not to rely on the policy to prevent any type of crime.
We should be doing that to gun grabbers too. Especially the heinous politician gun grabbers. Leave them hanging till they rot and fall out of the noose naturally.
Add those who win elections as a result of ballot box stuffing as well. Until it becomes personally dangerous to win an election that way, it will continue.
Yikes !!!
LOL I see what you are reffering to, NO NOT MINE.
Go to My FRHomepage for more of the Girls.
Like I said in another post, maybe they do indirectly protect us in the sense that a number of folks who are nasty enough to try and do us harm but too afraid to go to prison won’t act on their impulses.
So there’s that I guess.
That’s true.
But on the flip side, states that don’t allow capital punishment don’t give a criminal any reason not to take a shot at a cop or other target if they already know they’re going to prison for a long time based on their existing crimes.
They have nothing else to lose at that point.
Will do.
We actually live a ways off the main road so you have to work at getting to our place and it’s posted at the turn off no trespassing. I have a now retired police officer friend who’s vehicle got stuck down the main road a little ways from our turn off and no cell service. Him and his son came walking up on a Saturday morning and I heard the dogs start and saw them walking towards my MIL house, she wasn’t home so I knew they were coming back to our house.
Two guys in camo and I couldn’t see their faces yet so I answered the door with a .357 in hand and the cop friend whom I quickly recognized said to his son told ya he would be armed out in the middle of nowhere. They had gone hunting on some property another relative owns down the road a ways and their truck was stuck. I let him use the house phone and we sat and chatted for a while and then they headed for their vehicle after turning down an offer to drive them back to it to meet their tow.
