Toxic ideologies often start around family dinner tables. It's not just an uncle saying a racist joke, or a grandmother determining her xenophobic ideas as a part of her time. These comments seep into how we make decisions in voting booths, how judges rule in their chambers, how teachers guide students in school classrooms, how employment decisions are made, and how police react in high-stakes situations.
After a year of relentless atrocities that dont always make for easy conversation at the dinner table, it's important to make Thanksgiving preparations beyond the tablescape and the menu. This year, I want you to prepare for something a little more nuanced than stuffing or cranberry sauce: I want you to prepare to rock the family boat, with important discussions that stretch beyond the surface of How's the weather? and Who are you dating these days? So, I'm coming to you with a guide that should push you beyond apathy, and instead, teach you how to be a part of the solution. As Angela Davis reminds us, it is not enough to not be racist. You have to be anti-racist, and if you are not actively being part of the solution, then you are a part of the problem. So here is some language to help you navigate Thanksgiving day dinner.

Just don’t have it in me anymore to sit at a table with stupid libs. Would rather take a hike at the beach, watch a game in peace and drink beer and eat chicken or oysters.
Where’s the rim shot?
We won’t discuss racism, we will talk abut family and traditions and enjoy a great meal. On a scale of 0-10 racism ranks -10 on our agenda.
Pretty sure the great economy will come up after 8 years of Obama recession. Now that’s something to give thanks to.
Democrats segregate everyone into their respective races.
Racists!
Good grief. I’m thankful this Thanksgiving that she’s not part of my family.
Dammit, Jack! Asians are more racist than Hispanics and you know it!
Paul, sit down, son! Jack already said that Asians are up there with whites on the list! He was only talking about transgender Asians!
I dont think we are racist at all, dad.
Shut up, Mary Lou, all white people are so racist we dont even know we are racist!
Honey, that is not true. If you are well informed, you learn how racist we are!

F off. I’ll raise my family as I see fit.
LOL!
She lost me in the first paragraph when she held up Angela Davis as a shining example to learn from.
“I just want to know how this race conversation ends.
Does it end in violence?”
Well, Grampa Joe stabbed cousin Ricky in the neck with a carving knife... So Rickys wife, Thelma Lou dumped hot gravy over Grampa Joe’s head...
Then Grandma Helene jumped in and went after Thelma Lou with the electric carver... ran with it til the cord ran out, fell and broke her hip...
All because some democrat reporter said to talk politics at Thanksgiving this year instead of talking about our personal lives and NORMAL things as we always had...
Ive been the only white person at a family holiday table and no, once they got over me, they did not contain themselves so as not to utter one potentially offensive slur against whites. Verbal gymnastics not to offend is a white thing.
I got thrown out of a sub job at a school.because I encouraged black students towork hard. I learned the hard way a Quaker exhumed and years of black studies mean nothing from now on I will never try to friendly to a boy student Gain I am white I am a racist!
FOAD Commie and GTFO of our Thanksgiving! The only good Commie is six feet under.
Rachel Cargle makes Debbie Downer sound like the life of the party.
Wasn’t there a similar guide for provocative Thanksgiving conversation in huffingtonpost.com or something? Even liberals condemned it IIRC.
