I just had an argument with a Facebook friend who called me "closed minded" when I said I had zero interest in seeing the Broadway musical 'Hamilton'.
She says she won't talk to me until I check out the show for myself instead of "pre-judging it"
I told her that I know it getting universal acclaim, but after reading about concept, it sound really stupid...it appears the premise is "Let's intentionally cast ethnic minorities and women to play white men from the colonial era so 'modern audiences' can 'relate' to the story. I hate when they do that in movies so I doubt I would enjoy it any more if they do that politically correct stunt on Broadway (It's playing here at the Chicago Theater District and they cast "Miguel Cervantes" in the title role of "Alexander Hamilton", just like how the Broadway version has "Lin-Manuel Miranda" as Hamilton ::rolls eyes::)
I also explained that I'm not AGAINST an actor playing another ethnicity, if they can BELIEVABLY pull off that role. For example, I had no problem with Cuban actor Andy Garcia playing an Italian-American mafia figure in The Godfather III. I can buy him as Sonny Corleone's son. On the other hand, I CANNOT buy the very white and very British Benedict Cumberbatch as "Khan Noonien Singh", a Sikh from India. Ridiculous Stunt casting like that ruins the story for me and insults the audience's intelligence.
My friend replied that the musical is great because the music, lyrics, and story are incredibly powerful. My response to that is that is IF the musical is really good and compelling with catchy songs and a strong story IN ITS OWN RIGHT, then they could cast people that actually FIT the roles and it would still work. They wouldn't NEED some gimmick like Snoop Dogg plays Thomas Jefferson. Let's see "Hamilton" performed with actors who actually look and sound like the colonial era founding fathers, and see if still attractions the same "buzz" as the politically correct version does.
Lol get lost clown, you’re the one hijacking this thread just STFU and move along stalker and dont reply to my post again
I Love Ron White.
Tater salad is touring. https://www.ronwhitetour.com/
If you have the chance to see it, you should. Seriously, it’s _really_ good. I didn’t find it biased or PC at all.
The whole soundtrack is on the web. Listen to the scene where George Washington does the unthinkable and steps down to allow others to run for president.

cry back to mommy and get lost. Out of respect for the thread maker, quit your whining and crying.
and by the way, if you have any decency or a brain which I doubt, do NOT ACCUSE anyone or call them liars without evidence kapish?
Oh...Oh...Me..ME..ME...
Because a bunch of blacks get to play white crackers?
Will you knock it off?
You should not have accused someone here and max is correct. Show proof first THEN pounce on the Freeper.
If you have no proof then shut up. You are ruining the thread for everyone. You are the one in violation on FR just by that act alone.
I know no one who has a desire to see that garbage.
Because they are lemmings who only gain self worth by being part of the group.

What’s the big deal? I mean George Hamilton was dark, right? Didn’t he always go tanning?
I have McDonald’s & Chernow’s books in my bookshelves I am “exposed” to Hamilton.
Look I have walked out of Shakespeare plays because they do it in modern costuming!
I am probably one of the few FR’ers who dislike “Saving Private Ryan” & Mel Gibson’s “The Patriot” because of its total warping of the history. I have particular disdain for “The Patriot” because of the blending of three Revolutionary War heroes (Francis Marion, Daniel Morgan & Thomas Sumter) into one character. Those guys not good enough for Gibson? Gibson couldn’t carry their tobacco pouches!
I am sorry but I find fake history demeaning particularly when we know the true history like Private Ryan & the Southern Revolutionary theater. To me the Ryan movie story since it’s so “upside down” insults those who died there. Way way too many people believe it & “The Patriot” are true history! You’re going to have people thanks to this play thinking Hamilton was the first Broadway song & dance man! We are now in an almost totally visual society nobody reads! People can only tolerate information if it jiggles their fancy! I refuse to bend that way!
“Its all about virtue signaling.
Ohhh, YOU saw Hamilton? Oh, so cool..oooohhhh?
Simple things for simple people.”
Pretty much. I listened to the Hamilton CD while driving from San Francisco to Los Angeles several years ago, since my passengers insisted on listening to the CD. My conclusion is that the political theory of the “Hamilton” show is about 70% accurate and fails to highlight the real genius of Hamilton: promoting trade between the colonies. Hamilton was brilliant and the play fails to acknowledge the debt we Americans owe Hamilton.
Same problem I had with the movie “Lincoln”
The blacks all sounded like they were Columbia University grads.
The whites all sounded like toothless morons from the movie “Deliverance”
1776 was a lot of fun!
“Sit down John”
Well, here is the exact quote from Mike Pence on what he thought of the show:
"My daughter and I and her cousins really enjoyed the show. 'Hamilton' is just an incredible production, incredibly talented people. It was a real joy to be there"
Hmmm. Sounds to me like he loved it. If he said afterwards, "The booing didn't bother me, what bothered me is the play was stupid and lame and I was thoroughly disappointed by their take on the material because I'm a big fan of the historic figure and expected better", then you could make a valid case that Pence wasn't impressed by what he saw on stage.
Apparently he missed the latest census data that says the United States is still 60-70% caucasian. If his cast "looked like America is now", 7 out of 10 cast members would be white. Sounds like he decided to cast the show more along the lines of how the Dominican Republic is now.
It must be somehow related to establishment conservatives fawn over Hamilton as a greater than George Washington as AH was the proginitor of crony capitalism.
More strange are all the libs drooling over this ridiculous parody. Hamilton is the guy who despised the average man, called the people a ‘Great Beast’ Wanted the president to serve for life (inspiring many turd world leaders, I suppose). He also wanted state governors appointed by the President and have veto power over any state legislative action. He also was a big proponent of ‘National Grandeur’ which meant an aggressive foreign policy and a big army. Hamilton definitely believed that the mass of the population could be permanently duped with organized distraction and his National Grandeur circus. In short AH wanted the new USA to be Great Britain with real teeth.
Since Hamilton's various economic schemes were at the heart of his significance does this musical make even a reference to them?
Yes, it's a central theme in the musical.
