Loads of Fun!
If youre a Kel-Tec fan and you like to plink, you should have a look at the Kel-Tec PMR-30.
Not a new gun, its been around since 2010, but its an ideal pistol for hiking, camping or just toss it into your tackle box.
This gun is a .22 caliber and most are usually in a revolver type.
Kel-Tec PMR-30 is a full-size pistol chambered in .22 WMR. Full-size, however, its just a term that the gun industry coined.
Light Weight
The PMR-30 has a slender slide and a lightweight polymer frame that means unloaded it only weighs 13.6 ounces.
Fully loaded this pistol tips the scale at 19.8 ounces.
Magazine Hi-Capacity
The magazine is double-stack which holds 30 rounds of .22 WMR.
Though mentioned the pistol is slender, the magazine itself may be a little wide for the average male/female hand. Not a big issue, just something to note.
Sights
Another great feature is their highly visible sights with fiber-optic inserts. Read the rest of the Kel-tec 22 Mag pistol here.
It’s one of the ugliest guns I have ever seen. It makes me want to shoot my eyes out
No bueno. .22 mag overall case length is too long relative to the energy generated by the low powered round to reliably cycle the slide in semi auto. .22 mag is a revolver only round.
Not pretty true but any pistol that holds 30 rounds well, it has a beauty all its own.
I’ve seen them converted to full auto and they are a beast.
They had a problem at first and reintroduced it. I don’t see that reliability is an issue.
Subject to jams. And, the aforelisted item is reason # 2 for my not having bought one.
Yes they did. Jamming.
Nope. Functions beautifully in my High Standard .22 mag derringer. Hammerless and beautiful. For self-defense where total concealment is needed, it is tops.
I have had a couple 9mm’s in Keltec. The joke I heard is that they were called “Jammamatics”
I do have a sub 2000 - gen 1 in 9mm and that is a nice gun. I keep that in the side pocket in my pickup.
MFO
Jamming, and chambers failing. KABOOM!
Great concept, poor execution.
I had a KelTec P3AT (.380) that was not reliable, got rid of it.
I still have a KelTeck P-11 9mm DAO (double action only for you non-gunnies) and it runs great. Ten round magazine in a very concealable 9mm pocket pistol, and very affordable.
It’s easy to shoot accurately, the DA trigger “stacks” reliably and fast to the rear after the DA reset, the last 1/4” travel makes it go bang. I can keep rapid fire shots in a few inches at ten yards.
It is finicky with some ammo, but when you find a bullet shape/length that works, and you buy a case of it, no more problems.
Another issue with the early PMR30s was with keyholing. Kel-Tec offered replacement barrels with a higher rifling twist rate which reduced, but did not completely eliminate, keyholing.
The key is to find which ammo your gun shoots best.
Not all KelTecs are unreliable. This video mirrors my experience with the P-11.

“I have had a couple 9mms in Keltec. The joke I heard is that they were called Jammamatics
My only experience with Kel-tec was with a 9mm. First shot went bang. Second shot went bang. Third went click. They said it was likely ammo with “hard primers”, but I saw it as something I sure could not trust.
Was it a P-11? Please read 11 and watch 13.
I would rather have my p3at and not need it than vice versa. Hasn’t jammed on me once. As long as you bold it tightly. Don’t even know its in your pocket. Guaranteed for life made and Magyar mags.
Would sadly, send me to jail here in The Peoples Republic of Connecticut.
Throws out a huge muzzle flash but accuracy is surprisingly excellent. People at the the range always think it's a center fire. 500 plus rounds to date and counting.
Now looking for the carbine version: CMR 30. Prices are still too high so I'll wait.
At a gun show an FFL guy told me the trigger housing is plastic and wears pretty fast - basically it’s plastic junk IMHO.
To read later.
