By KYLE CHENEY 07/25/2018 07:18 PM EDT Updated 07/25/2018 07:36 PM EDT Share on Facebook Share on Twitter House conservatives have filed articles of impeachment in an effort to oust Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the overseer of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.
The articles, filed late Wednesday by Reps. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) two top Trump allies blast Rosenstein for what they allege was a failure to respond to congressional document demands. Senior Justice Department officials have rejected the criticism and described historic levels of cooperation with Congress to share files connected to the FBI investigations of Hillary Clinton's email server and Trump campaign contacts with Russia.
Though the move marks an escalation by Trump allies against Rosenstein, who has drawn Trump's ire for appointing Mueller last year, Meadows sidestepped a procedural move that could have forced the issue to a vote this week and laid bare divisions among Republicans. Instead, the House is leaving Thursday for a five-week recess and it's unclear whether conservatives will attempt to force the issue when lawmakers return in September.
Meadows and Jordan's decision to file the articles of impeachment came hours after they huddled with top Justice Department officials at the Capitol to discuss lingering demands for documents. Other lawmakers in the meeting had described progress and rejected the notion of impeaching Rosenstein, but Meadows and Jordan said they remained dissatisfied.

“Instead, the House is leaving Thursday for a five-week recess and it’s unclear whether conservatives will attempt to force the issue when lawmakers return in September.”
Nothing-burger.
Not a minute too soon....
Five weeks on vacation. Is there a company in America that gives their employees five continuous weeks off, paid? This is on our dime for the simple reason to garner support and get reelected.
Looks like more theater.
Hope someone follows through.
They will work harder on this “vacation” than they do in DC.
Rosensweasel yawns
RINOcrat kabuki!
It is more likely that there are 67 Senators who want to give Rosenstein a medal than that there are 67 who would vote to remove him.
And that’s just their summer break. There’s Christmas break, Spring break, and no telling how many others. And then a cushy retirement awaiting. Quite a racket.
“Congressthing” should be a part-time job, with a salary to match ... such that they have to do real work half the year (or more) in order to make ends meet.
What am I missing? Why can’t Trump just fire him? He’s an appointed member of the executive branch, not an elected official - I believe his employment can be terminated at any time by either his boss, Jeff Sessions, or the head of the executive branch, Donald Trump. Why is there any need to impeach this guy?
Blah, blah, blah . . .
Rosenstein deserves to be fired for his signing of the FISA warrant with the false dossier as the basis. What an idiot he is. Can him.
“Why cant Trump just fire him? Hes an appointed member of the executive branch, not an elected official -”
Trump could but the media, the demonrats and their handlers would go ape ver it. It is better if congress does it.
$10 says the senate is not going into full recess. They will never let Trump make recess appointments. The gopE is the enemy.
Turley just said Rosenweasel could be held in contempt....but we have all seen that those held in contempt have nothing but contempt for our laws. Or they wouldnt have behaved the way they did to begin with. Impeachment is the only way to get the info they need.....and it wont come before the next election. Thats what the left is betting on......running out the clock until they can get control and make all the criminality of the Leftgo away. I am appalled that our country is at this crossroads. Hopefully there are still enough Patriots in this country to counter the voting fraud that will be the Dems MO this November.
Good Point
