Trump administration seeks to open Harvard admissions files

The Trump administration on Friday urged a federal judge to allow for the public disclosure of records related to Harvard’s admissions practices, as part of a lawsuit accusing the elite school of bias against Asian-American applicants.

The Justice Department sided with a group suing Harvard for allegedly discriminatory admissions practices. The DOJ told the judge to reject the university’s attempts to shield from public view many case documents that it claims are confidential.

I agree... but admissions staff should look for both of these qualities separately since the presence of both indicates well-roundedness:

loving one's fellow man
not hating the rest of creation

Rather than lumping them together under one rubric (volunteerism).

Oh how it is to laugh, the privilege of confidentiality as an evidentiary matter can only be claimed by the applicant, not the institution itself.

Harfart University, the place where all dead liberal fascists
come home to roost.

That records going back to 1985 need to be provided to determine if a pattern exists.

Virtually all of the so-called private universities accept Federal money for their programs, and thus are subject to compliance with anti-discrimination law. I’m sure you’d find that Harvard is getting big bucks from the Feds for one thing or another.

That said, I have always been amazed at the level of open discrimination against Asians in the academic world. Really, though, what it is at heart is discrimination against excellence (the same reason Jews were discriminated against in admissions procedures) because the “excellence” did not belong to a politically favored group. Hence the need for “affirmative action,” even unstated - as professor Amy Wax recently pointed out, raising a storm with her criticism of the attempt to achieve equality of result by placing completely unqualified minorities in colleges where they could not possibly succeed.

I hope they nail Harvard on this. Oh, and that they find BO’s foreign student application while they’re at it...

FWIW, Sec 505 of the IIRIRA. If it isn’t involved, it should be.

In my college days one of my best friends had a family from Taiwan.

I promise you his politics were so “not left” that he would be banned on this site in five seconds for blatant racism.

People from Taiwan take no garbage from anyone, and they really hate liberals.

Thanks MNDude. The 1st thing? Prop 209 and the 2018 election in California.

>>Bias against whites and perhaps even Jews will turn out to be at least as dramatic at Harvard as bias against Asians, I bet.<<

Lefties HATE Asian and Jews b/c they are living proof of the lie that “minorities can’t succeed.”

Both groups are examples of how a culture that emphasized education and hard work can thrive.

You will likely not find a single leftist university that practices what it preaches or allows to be preached on campus.

I do worry about Saudi students. Especially ones who go to flight school and only want to learn how to turn left.

Sheesh!

Open up the files and let those Americans who make the grade into the school. Everybody else afterwards. Make Harvard great again.

“A Japanese or Korean person has pretty much nothing in common with an Indian or Pakistani, yet they are both “Asian”.”

While I won’t try to speak for Pakistanis, I will say that Native Asians (i.e., Indians) are treated like crap by our elite schools, no different than Koreans or Japanese.

So what is the first thing that comes to your mind when reading this?

The implication that the DOJ told a judge what he was doing.

SAT scores, admissions and dropout rates tell the tale. Dr. Charles Murray nailed it.
