God's will be done
The Catholic religion inducts and celebrates its saints, and I would like to know what the holdup is regarding the late Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen (1895-1979). Why is he not yet a saint?
For those who do not know, Fulton Sheen hosted an extremely popular television show in the 1950s. A number of its episodes can be watched on the internet, so those who were born long after Fulton Sheens passing can catch a glimpse of what the man was like.
He probably got caught pimping a stupid blog.
My family weren’t Catholic but we always listened to Bishop Sheen’s broadcasts. Funny, incisive, scholarly without being boring, and a man who brought the Christian religion to your table and your life. He was a gift of, and from, God.
Sheen and Billy Graham were the two giants.
If Sheen wasnt a saint before his physical death, theres nothing anyone can do for him now.
Amazing commentary on the culture, that his was one of the most popular shows on TV.
Certainly would be an improvement if the networks would
try something like that again (with Chaput, maybe).
A great man. I watched his show as a child and his book, “Life Is Worth Living” had a profound effect on me. He certainly should be a saint.
As for the blog-pimping complaint, give me that any day rather than the proliferation of facebook-style vapid vanities that now infest this place.
You should watch more of his videos about grammar, punctuation and blog pimping.
LOL!
:)
Is that what sainthood entails? Being popular on television? Don’t there have to be verified acts of magic or something? David Copperfield never got a dinner.
Joseph Cotten, who said, “You know how I got my name? Sammy Davis picked it for me.” Never got a dinner!
Ben Hur, who said to his sister Ben Him, “We’d better swap names before they start calling me Ben Gay!” Never got a dinner!
Uncle Remus, who said to Uncle Ben, “You’re a credit to your rice.” Never got a dinner!
Crispus Attucks, who said, “Don’t shoot till you see the whites!” Never got a dinner!
Dean Martins great-great-uncle, Ebenezer Martin, who said to Eli Whitney, “I see the cotton, but wheres the gin?” Never got a dinner!
Eve, who asked Adam, “Does this fig leaf make me look fat?” Never got a dinner! (Got an apple, but never got a dinner.)
Joe Torre, who switched to first base because he didn’t want to go through life as Chicken Catcher Torre. Never got a dinner!
Henry Ford, who despite his immense wealth never owned a Cadillac. Never got a dinner!
Sophia Loren, whose new baby asked her, “Is all that for me?” Never got a dinner!
Adam, who said to Eve, “What do you mean you have nothing to wear?” Never got a dinner!
Donald Trumps mother, who said, “Donnie! Stop playing Monopoly and get in that barbers chair! “ Never got a dinner!
The captain of the Titanic, who said to room service, “Who sent for all this ice?” Never got a dinner!
Queen Elizabeth, who said, “Not now, I’m on the throne.” Never got a dinner!
Abraham Lincoln, who said, “A house divided... is a condominium.” Never got a dinner!
J. Paul Getty, who still hasn’t been buried - they keep finding oil! Never got a dinner!

I use to listen to Bishop Sheens broadcasts too...
There are criteria for sainthood, which involves miracles being ascribed to the actions of the person.
I’m not Catholic and do t know the details. Hopefully someone who knows better can fill us in.
But the point is, he may well have been a great man, but not qualified for sainthood.
This thread reminds me of the baseball fans who say, “why isn’t so and so in the hall of fame? He was a great player who hit more home runs that so and so, who is in the hall of fame”.
Being a saint is not an issue which gets voted on based on the greatness or contributions to the faith of someone.
Sheen was an evolutionist and a Teilhardian.
Sheen did my Confirmation at Guardian Angels Church in Henrietta, NY (suburb of Rochester). He seemed “real” to me and didn’t appear to take himself as seriously as many who adored him. I have trouble with humans deciding other humans deserve being elevated to sainthood - Being a saved believer elevates us all to sainthood, pure and holy and wholly justified, in God’s eyes and no human accolades changes or enhances this condition...Billy Graham is as much a saint as is Bishop Sheen .... as is my Mother, Father, Mother-in-Law, Father-in-Law,....and lots of living folks I know.
I think you mean miracles... I believe in them, don’t you?
Or even earlier, “Strange things are happening.”
You apparently dont know what is meant by being recognized as a saint.
Ok so you disagree with Catholic theology. Doesnt mean you are right though. Thanks.
