A new Bill, SB719, has been passed by both the House and the Senate in Oregon that allows police to take your legally owned weapons AND permit without your permission, even if you have never appeared in a court or been charged with a crime.
It is based on the 2014, Californian Bill SB 719A, that enacts what is known as an “Extreme Risk Protection Order” (ERPO). The “reasoning” behind this Bill has been explained as a way of preventing at-risk people of committing suicide. But the reality is that this is just a way of allowing the State to seize legally owned weapons without any Due Process.
It allows that if a family member, a person in the household, or a Police Officer deems you to be “at-risk”, they can applt to the court for all firearms and permits to be removed from the “at risk” person. This is then either granted or denied by the judge. The “at risk” person does not even have to be either aware of the order or appear before the court for this to be granted.

But those predisposed to suicide can commit it with the States blessings as long as it is assisted. Got it.
I think that any person who has an inkling that they’d be coming for the families guns will be quickly hiding them; vacuum pack them and put them at the bottom of the septic system. They want then, they find them there well good luck and have fun getting them out (of course you have your quick way of doing it though).

So the result is that otherwise law-abiding citizens (or police) will be killed when such orders are being executed.
All it takes will be one rough police officer and one rogue judge.
If this passes...
Step 1. Find out who the security are for the Oreganian Governor/state rep/senators, Mayor etc....
Step 2. Use burner phone to call in anonymous tip that these people appear to be suicidal.
Step 3. Watch it get repealed the next day
Seize your property for flimsy reasons with poor due process? Sounds a lot like civil asset forfeiture & the War On Drugs.

Does anyone but me find it ironic that a state that allows doctor assisted suicide wants to take away the guns from people who might commit suicide.

B...b...but, suicide is legal or Oregawn. Shouldn’t they be required to provide ammo free of charge (after all, we got “positive” rights) if they think you’re going to kill yourself?
Didn’t they go house to house confiscating guns from homeowners trying to guard their properties after Hurricane Katrina without due process?
