Shepard Smith, a Fox News anchor since 1996, revealed last week that he had no intention of opening up about his sexuality the way he did during an April speech at his alma mater.
Speaking at a conference, Smith was tapped to talk on a panel titled “It Starts With MEek,” one that was meant to promote inclusivity and diversity. According to a report made by the Clarion-Ledger, Smith changed his speech at the last minute to reflect the crux of the conversation and decided to tell his own story of inclusivity and diversity.
It wasnt until seven, or eight, or nine years ago, I started living my truth, Smith told the crowd gathered to hear the panel. I grew up in Holly Springs (Miss.). I went to the First Methodist Church. I went to Ole Miss. I was also trying to avoid what having a normal social life is. I didnt need to go home and find my girlfriend or boyfriend.
He revealed that he dropped out of college in 1987, just two credits short of graduating, and began working on television in Florida. Smith said that at that time, coming out wasn’t something he’d even considered. Married to Virginia Donald from 1987-1993, Smith didn’t really have the option.
“A. Youre going to hell for it,” Smith said about his internal battle over coming out as homosexual. “B. Youll never have any friends again. C. What are you going to tell your family? And by the way, youre on television on the craziest conservative network on Earth. That will probably put you in front of a brick wall. Of course none of that was true, but thats how it felt.”
He continued, “I dont think about it. Its not a thing. I go to work. I manage a lot of people. I cover the news. I deal with holy hell around me. I go home to the man Im in love with.”
Smith also took the time to stamp out old rumors that former Fox News chief Roger Ailes forbid him from coming out.
The Fox News reporter came out in October 2016 and noted that he never had a poor experience with Ailes.
“Its such a wonderful place,” he told the Huffington Post in an interview about the Fox organization, “and its been home forever. [Ailes] was very fatherly and mentorish.”
About the reports that Ailes forced him to closet his sexuality, Smith denied it ever happened, but revealed that purported homophobic remarks made by Ailes in the past but never around Smith did hurt him.
“He was as nice as he could be to me. I loved him like a father, Smith admitted. I trusted him with my career and with ― I trusted him and trusts were betrayed. People outside this company cant know [how painful that betrayal was]. This place has its enemies, but inside, it was very personal, and very scarring and horrifying.
Even Ray Charles could see this idiot is queer as a three dollar bill!
Shrimp Smith is gay?! Next you are going to tell me Barry Manalow and Richard Simmons are gay!
Oh, so he married a woman and then probably destroyed her life as gay married guys always do! What a charmer. I guess he’s still using her mascara.
I could care less that he’s gay the problem is that he’s totally left wing.
Main reason I stopped watching fox years ago. Shep. I didn’t care or care now if he is gay. I never knew he was gay for years. His politics is what turned me off.
He once did a broadcast, last time I watched him. Israelis had been blown up on a bus in Israel. His worry...what would the Israelis do to the palis. His poor palis might be harmed.
Oh brother! Do we have to listen to another “Aren’t I brave because I’m a Homosexual ‘coming out!’”
So tired of the queers having to make sure we know their sexual preferences, and then patting themselves on the back for it! Get over it already!
Huh??? So he was seven years old when he started engaging in sodomy?
Good grief, what a drama queen. and you can tell the puff is missing a lot of testosterone.
I’m less impressed by his faggotry than the fact he couldn’t even finish an undergrad degree, and brags about dropping out two credits shy.
I remember watching that live. LOL
Not watched him since Katrina. It amazes me how many freepers actually do watch his show , then come on here to complain he is bashing the President, or conservatives.
Dang! I’m shocked! Shocked I say!...................I grew up 22 miles from Holly Springs, in the 60’s and Shepard Smith was our local TV reporter on channel 7 out of Panama City in the 80’s...................
I don’t care who he sleeps with. I stopped watching him give the news during Hurricane Katrina when he said dead bodies were stacked like cord wood in Superdome.
I miss guys like Merv Griffin and Johnny Mathis. Everybody knew they were gay, but they kept it to themselves and did not rub everybody’s nose in it.
Exactly. That’s the one part of these self-centered “My Journey in Coming Out as Gay” stories soft-pedal. A lot of closet homosexuals were in marriages that were frauds. Its one thing to be gay and not talk about it. Its another thing to be gay and marry a woman you know you’ll never love and ruin at least part of her life because you want to “fit in.” Its disgusting.
Perfect for center square on Foxywood Squares.
