Exactly. That’s the one part of these self-centered “My Journey in Coming Out as Gay” stories soft-pedal. A lot of closet homosexuals were in marriages that were frauds. Its one thing to be gay and not talk about it. Its another thing to be gay and marry a woman you know you’ll never love and ruin at least part of her life because you want to “fit in.” Its disgusting.
They “come out as gay” not because they are so brave, but because they know a fawning media will love them for it.
It’s not brave to wander into a crowd that loves you.
Shep is lucky to get to tell a sob story. Younger gays never got discriminated against or had to come out. Shep can live for years on the “I had to marry a GIRL” horror story.
