A lot of the Silicon Valley elite are doing extreme experiments on their bodies in hopes of prolonging their lives and improving their health. The latest fad among this set is sticking to a so-called 'ketogenic' diet that's exceptionally high in fat and low in carbs and is considered an experimental treatment for diabetes. Think Atkins, but way more extreme.
Ambar Bhattacharyya, a managing director with Maverick Ventures, initially embarked on a low-carb, high-fat "ketogenic" diet during the due diligence process for a startup called Virta Health. The diet was designed to transition his body from burning fat as its primary fuel source, rather than glucose. Those on the diet typically eat less than 30 grams of carbs each day.
He lost about 7 pounds in the first week, but gave up after a few months. "I started to get really cranky and had to drink a lot of coffee," he recalled. "That meant a lot more bathroom breaks during our partner meeting."
Bhattacharyya said that 2 other investors at the office tried it, meaning about a third of the office was on ketogenic diets.
Virta, the company that caught Bhattacharyya's interest, is geared at helping people with type 2 diabetes get off their meds by coaching them to adopt lifestyle changes including carb restriction. Its doctors have mixed feelings about body-hacking venture capitalists trying to get into nutritional ketosis, without supervision.....

I’ve had both and in fact I worked for an upscale grocery chain at the HQ level for a long time (in 2008-2009 I could buy grass fed ribeyes for $3.2/lb with employee discount basically two straight summers). I prefer grain fed both for taste, marbling, and price. To get grass fed anywhere near as tender as good marbled grain fed, you have to marinate it overnight. But hey, my old industry loves people like you that pay 2x for organic, “natural” and “ABHF” - probably paid my salary for a while.
ditto
It is the Atkins diet. Without the chemicals. If you buy Atkins protein bars or whatever they are filled with junk like aspartame. I have been doing a KetoDiet for years and even those still overweight I have lost and I am not diabetic my A1 C is dead normal according to my doctor. I love this diet because it keeps you from being hungry. And you can eat lots of bacon
**... but the parents I know who have kids**
You know some who don’t?
Lol. Sorry, couldn’t help it.
I really need to invent The Next Big Thing for rich liberals to squander their money on.
They’re such herd animals.

I make unsweetened kefir, fermented turmeric and ginger, kombucha and use them all, along with green tea and whey protein in a daily morning drink, with a bit of stevia and lemon for flavor. So I get the probiotic thing.
Have you ever heard of the 80/20 rule? It works for just about everything. You get 80% of the benefits solving 20% of the problem, 80% of your profits from your best 20% customers, 80% of your problems from your worst 20% customers, etc. IMO - you'll get 80% of the health benefits just from going HFLC or paleo in general - regardless of what types of high fat and low carb / natural products you eat. Micromanaging beyond that is silly IMO - especially given that most studies don't show organic, etc to have any increase in vitamins or produce any results and the increase in costs. But to each his own.
