North Dakota may eliminate penalties for running down protesters who block the freeway

..Accidentally, of course.

We’ve all seen the clips. A mob of protesters rioters shuffles down the center of a three-lane highway like a scene from The Walking Dead. They block traffic, delay safety and rescue vehicles, and generally cause havoc in the name of their cause du jour. Many have wondered “what happens if you just plow into them?” Well, usually what happens is you go to jail. However, in North Dakota, that may soon be a thing of the past.

OK, not exactly. Before you go all David Carradine in Death Race 2000, you should know that purposely running protesters down will still be a crime. But, if a new bill makes it through the North Dakota legislature, there may be no penalty for negligently hitting someone who is willfully obstructing a public highway.

Nice, but symbolic. Nobody is going to try this crap in North Dakota. First of all, there are not enough feral utes in the population. Second of all, because winters are long and a little liquid “accidentally” sprayed on them will cool their ardor for these type of stunts in a hurry.

You must not have watched “Fargo” ;-)

But I tend to agree, this is a solution to a nearly non-existent problem in ND and we will not see similar laws in those blue city-state areas where it is much more needed. For example, it’s easier to imagine the current NYC regime firing a cop who said something mean to a protester than giving the OK to a law that makes it impossible for them to ruin someone elses life for their own narcissistic stupidity.

We should show solidarity with them by making asphalt colored clothing they’re official color of protest. I have a big black ranch hand brush guard bumper on my Dodge Cummins 2500 so I can connect with black lives matter also.

I care ......

They need to take away the ability to lawyer up and sue someone if you are hit while purposely in the street!!! I see it all the time people waking down the street at night in dark/black clothes sometimes waking down the center line or into oncoming traffic. This goes far beyond jay waking. I say if you are in the road (not a crosswalk) and get hit by a car you are at fault (period)

North Dakota may eliminate penalties for running down protesters who block the freeway

Not enough, mandatory prison sentences and collective responsibility for criminal agitators that block public access of any lawfully acting citizen or resident.

Debtors custody and the workhouse for those owing fines or compensation for care or custody to the State.

I’d love to be on the jury. Claims of negligence, rather than intent are an open door to jury nullification.

I know a trucker who floored it because he didn’t want to stop for a mob.
They DID scatter.

Under that is David Carridine, in Death Race 2000, (1975), who was fresh off of Kung Fu.
Interesting trivia: Carradine was a vegan and wouldn't wear leather, so the costume had to be made out of vinyl.

The movie, a Roger Corman quicky, is actually moderately amusing, with the idea being a cross country race where the drivers got extra points for running people down.

I guess you had to be there...

This legislation arises from the Dakota Access Pipeline protest, where losers and rabble blocked roads, destroyed equipment and other property, and damaged and burned vehicles.

Most of the violence was away from population areas, but the filth (most of the trouble is seen to have come from outside talent imported to the area) did move up into Bismarck and distrupted traffic and commerce there.

My home of Bismarck, pop. 65K, is the capital of the state, and the seat of Morton County, which together have been forced to spend $22 million so far on policing this garbage.

The protests are quieted now, because of cold and Obama's directive that the pipeline not be built, despite having been fully vetted and permitted, by Obama's own EPA.

But it will start again in the spring, especially given President-elect Trump's rightful determination to see the pipeline completed.

And you can't imagine the abuse one endures if one's Facebook, e-mail account or physical address is exposed; nor the irritation at the knowledge that the protesters are camped illegally on Corps of Engineer lands, and that our tax dollars are also going to feed, warm, and doctor to the people attacking us.
