He must have looked a fearsome sight as he parachuted into the heart of occupied Europe.
His keen eyes scoured the battlefield for enemy troops and he was poised to hit the ground running.
It might not have been quite what the Germans were expecting from Britain's D-Day invasion force but Bing the para-dog played a vital role in liberating France.

This is the first I read of this hero dog. Thought I have read about every WW2 dog story.

There are a lot of dogs serving with our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. Read a great story of a bomb sniffing dog but I’m having a hard time finding it again. The story was from the dog’s point of view and it was a Belgian Malinois. They’re about two-thirds the size of a GS.

Dobermans are the only dog I don’t trust after being bitten by one a roommate owned. But then again, the dog was high strung and he felt the only way to control it was to beat her.......

    OMG.
I’m sorry you’ve had judge them based on one that was being abused.
You *never* beat a Dobe.
They live to please their people and beating them breaks their mind and spirit, turning them into nervous, defensive wrecks.
So sorry for your experience.

The USMC Devil Dog dog handlers *never* had to dig their foxholes.
The other guys did it for them, just so they could be near the handler and their dog as they slept.

For over 40 years, they have watched over me as I sleep, too.
