Greetings All;
Here is another thought provoking discussion on keeping yourself & your family & friends safe when your world turns upside down & inside out.
It was posted on this ping-list about civil unrest/riot/s, and what would you do, if caught in such a situation/s.
Well for starters for me, I do NOT plan to be caught in such a situation. I avoid the areas where such could occur at anytime. If for some reason, that I would happen be caught in such, I would become a "grey-man" & disappear. Head on a swivel, cell phone turned off, move laterally to the disturbance/s till I was blocks away from the area in trouble. Then start moving towards my safe area/s or bug out routes [that I have checked out in advance] I would not transmit any data until well clear of the trouble [this means NO phone calls to let family & friends know I was safe, till I was was totally safe] Then my comm would be via a net work that I trusted or encrypted voice [ie coded cb,ham radio, ect], then go dark till I either got home or to my secure location. At NO time would I pull a weapon/s unless there was NO choice left. I would try to out think my problem/s than use of lethal force. [that would only draw, very unwelcome attn, from everyone. Remember the object is to blend in & disappear before everyone's eyes. And pulling a weapon puts you right into the cross hairs, esp of law enforcement who are already on edge as it is. So use every means at your disposal to escape & evade & DE-esclate your surroundings.
If anyone tells me around about what area they live in, I can give specific advice for tower triangulation.
Cell phone location is NOT as great as one might think it is. It’s always broken, and most carriers have utter garbage resolution.
My software is proprietary and will turn that terrible data into something less terrible.
But Google will give anyone who wants it your EXACT location, your history and everything.
Even if you wipe it out on the interface. Google never met a regime it didn’t eagerly run to please.
Taking out the battery out of your cell phone oughta do it.
The Samsung 5 & 7 has that removable battery feature.
Putting your cell phone in an RFID blocking pouch should work as well.
RE: “[ I run a cell phone tracking company. Turning off your phone isnt enough. ]
Correct.”
Oh would love to have been a fly on the wall when she got the news she wasn’t getting the life insurance.
I tell people that Google didn’t just rise on pure citizen stock.
Once, got accused of “tinfoil’ (essentially). Until one of them read on in the article about a new facility.
But people are slow to wake up in this country. It’s all really cool technology. From a purely technical standpoint.
Had a man like Hitler had that capacity......
I have heard that the usual margin of error is 100 feet to about a max of 300 feet, which is usually good enough for law enforcement, should an active phone have been left at a crime scene. Perhaps my numbers are outdated.
She is one scary woman.
And her acting in that courtroom would have convinced me, if nothing else.
If you haven’t watched the whole thing, see her “painting party” 10 hours after he was shot.
Thank you. Of course, many of today’s phones are sealed so pulling the battery isn’t even an option.
Yes. Wherever you remove it, that is your last known location, all other things being equal (meaning assuming no reserve capacity built into the phone).
“The Fresh Market” grocery stores are closing in North Texas, if not around the US. Everything is half off as of two days ago, and they are clearing out.
If anyone wants to stock up, though much of the options need to be frozen or scanned, start now.
I have a couple of phones - both non-contract. I can remove it on each but yeah, I’ve heard of those others. I’ve yet to have one. My Tracfone requires Google to use all “features”. I’m almost wanting to go back to the simple phone I replaced. But I bought a backup because they were super-cheap and I had a little money coming in (for a short while). The phone was just under $60 at Wal-Mart marked down to less than $10 - so I bought two.
The secret to having a green thumb....kill a lot of plants.
The rest are survivors like yourself.
Just looked - closing all Texas, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas it appears.
I live in a wooded area of NH with friendly Republican neighbors. I stored food and firewood, but my big concern is getting a bike (in case fuel is short, car doesn’t work). If anyone has a good idea for a comfortable reliable brand of bike, let me know. Should I just hit Walmart?
An adult tricycle might be better choice, right? I can use the basket it has to bring stuff when bartering.
thx
I’ve been stocking up on canned goods - tuna, sardines, corn, baked beans, soups. Dried milk too.
Buy this book: The Vegetable Gardener’s Bible by Edward C. Smith.
It’s the only book you need. It tells you everything you were doing wrong, and how to do it right, and you’ll slap your forehead and go, “D’oh!”
Here’s my tip: Don’t try to plant a grocery store at first. Start small, with no more than 5 or 6 ***compatible*** plants (incompatible cross pollination is the big mistake beginners make) then add new veggies to the outer edges of your plot, so your types of veggies increase outward.
Also, Lowe’s and Home Depot sell the 25 gallon cheap black plastic pots that a whole lot of veggies can be planted in, and you can experiment, and see what to later put in the ground, before you wear out your back.
Between your rows, use the thick, woven black weed stop fabric with the green stripe. The other stuff does not work.
CANNING JARS
If you ever purchase canned or jarred pasta sauce take a look at the Classico products the next time you are in a grocery store.
Classico brand pasta sauce comes in mason type jars with regular screw on tops.
The 24 ounce red sauces are sold in regular canning jars.
Sometimes you will also find the small jars with pesto or bruschetta (like 1/2 pints) that are also mason style jars.
For a store bought canned sauce Classico isn’t bad and our local stores have a Buy-One-Get-One sale on them twice a year.
There are also discount coupons available on line and in the newspaper handouts.
We clean and reuse the Classico jars and have canned all sorts of different foods in them using both water bath and pressure cooker and never had a breakage or failure to seal.
In fact, for things like pickles, pickled eggs, etc, that aren’t processed in hot water or the pressure cooker I even reuse the original tops and find that they reseal nicely.
Someday I plan on making a test batch of tomato sauce with the recycled original tops to see how they work out.
Farming is a procedure not an art form.Lots of good books to read, get your soil tested so you know what you’re working with and just follow the guidelines.
My wife's the master gardener in our family.
I planted 8 bare root apple trees and 6 died. As I was lamenting, she told me, "you're gonna kill a lot of plants before you get your green thumb"
Not a bad idea. make sure you get a portable pump, extra inner tubes, patch kits, and basic repair tools, lubes, etc..
You'll be able to make that investment last years and years.
Thank you for that info. My garden right now consists of four 4’ x 6’ raised planters. Last time I planted anyting I did one type per planter; sunflowers, squash, pumpkin, watermelon. The sunflowers did fantastic. Everything else was eaten off the vine. We live across from a pine orchard and the Lubber Grasshoppers invade.
