Think this was filmed overseas but anyways, the video shows a guy using a tree to get away from this 5 point deer.(I think) The guy basically maneuvers around the tree so the deer couldn't get to him. Eventually, the man climbs up the tree until the deer moves on. See it here.
Mule deer are identified the same way...most of the time.
Whitetail are generally refer to as all the points...like that is a 10 point buck.

Could be but I would wager a red stag is closely related. The bellow he let out sounds like that of an elk.

Adult male stags are distinguished by the “crown” or “cup” of points at the tops of both beams, whereas bull elk generally grow a “row” of single points off of the main beam.
I’d whip out a picture of the Hillabeast.
Of course, it is a bit of an overreaction, since it would kill the poor animal who never would have encountered something so repulsive in its life.
Up jumps a good sized fawn...and my dogs take after it.
Couple seconds later my dogs are screaming back towards me with momma deer right on their heels..!!!! HAHA!!
BTW...they would have never caught the fawn.
I was once raking leaves when a buck came charging out of the woods north of our house at me. Happily he realized I wasn’t what he’d thought I was (another buck pawing around in the leaves?) & turned just a few feet shy of me & bounced down our hill. In the second or two before, I was trying to figure out whether to drop to the ground or try to ward him off with the rake. Neither option probably would’ve worked.
He was one of the biggest bucks we’ve seen around here. Later my husband saw him doing the ‘antler dance’ with another buck. Scary moment!

What would I do? Turn around, draw my Glock 19, and put aimed fire between the deer’s eyes. Then, I’d field dress him, take him to the deer processor, then grill some deer burgers. MMmmmmmm...

In my limited experience, that looks like an elk. The neck is too thick to be a deer.
