The GOP Needs to Change its Narrative on Illegal Immigration? [response to Juan Williams piece]

I agree that the GOP needs to change its "script" on illegal immigration; they need to stop allowing the Party of Jim Crow to define the terms and set the narrative.

They need to stop being defensive about what the majority of the American people want: Existing immigration laws must be enforced and the incentives for illegal immigration must be removed.

The Democrat-controlled IRS is most recently offering "tax refunds" to illegal aliens who never paid any taxes!

So Republicans should make it clear that the status quo of virtually unchecked illegal immigration benefits only the elites on both sides of the border, while causing harm to everyone else in both countries.

In Mexico, corruption, neglect and incompetence is held into place as America continues to serve as a political and economic safety valve. In the US, the labor surplus keeps wages flat and exacerbates the lowest labor participation rate since America was recovering from Jimmy Carter.

What should Republicans advocate? Not amnesty!

There is no need to militarize the border or have massive roundups and deportations. Taxpayer-funded benes should be reserved for US citizens only. Employers who blatantly hire illegal aliens should face heavy penalties, but with safeguards against racial discrimination against Americans of Hispanic descent. The 14th Amendment should be clarified to its original intent; those born to non-citizens here illegally should not be given US citizenship. And illegals who commit crimes should be deported immediately after serving their sentences.

Such steps would be "revenue neutral" and the illegals here -- particularly those who are disposed toward being parasites or criminals -- would deport themselves, while many more would not come here in the first place.

Included with this should be a sincere and concerted program to help reform Mexico politically and economically. The Republic has a wealth of resources and an intelligent, hard-working population. There is no excuse for that country to be the backwater it currently is today.

Republicans should snap back at accusations of racism with the retort that if the Democrats really cared, they would advocate the sort of things recommended above -- which would make it better for everybody but the elites [for whom the Left actually advocates on this and so many other issues].

With 600 million people south of our porous non-existent southern border and untold millions outside the Americas who might also avail themselves of easy access, there can be only one immigration policy - take away the incentives to cheat the system and enter illegally. Stop giving prizes for illegal entry.

Any measure that permits those who entered illegally to benefit from that illegal act is amnesty.

This must be stopped.

Will you help stop this?

One little problem — the GOP, pushed by the Chambers of Commerce, are wanting amnesty/open borders just as much as the Dems are — for different reasons.

GOP — to placate the Chambers of Commerce and employers with low-skilled, cheap labor.

Dems — LIV voters.

You are absolutely right on that. The Republican elites are apparently beholden to commercial interests that are addicted to cheap, easily exploited labor.

Hence, I continue to maintain that illegal immigration only benefits the elites on both sides of the border.

I heard recently that about 25% of the total citizenry of Mexico is now in the USA.

At what point do we just say, ‘to heck with it, let’s annex all of Mexico’?

The trouble with many of the newcomers is that they want to turn the southwest USA into the conditions like their homeland. So why did they leave, if those conditions were so great?

My opinion has changed over the last few years to where I really think that Americans (most) are genetically superior to everyone else. We do stupid things occasionally (election 2008 & 2012) but we are not a stupid people.

I think that the Mexicans and others believe that there is something magical in the American soil that makes our country more prosperous. We’re just “lucky” that’s all.

It is, in fact, our relative — and ever diminishing — freedom that made America the home of prosperity and innovation. If they had it in their own countries, they would have it also.

But the Left does not believe in freedom, and that is why Latin America languishes in squalor. It is also why as America’s freedoms erode, so does our prosperity.

The only candidate that has the brains and the fortitude to change the narrative is Ted Cruz.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...
