Doug Marcaida a military Contractor in Edge Impact Weapons systems and weapons of opportunity. Doug goes over some principles of things to be aware of if you're caught up in an fight, the main theme to all this is "awareness", have a look here to see the rest.
Always carry. Never let them within leaping distance. Shoot! and your first words to your lawyer (before police) are “I felt my life was in danger and I shot.
*sigh* Link to a YouTube video? Really?
Anyone want to give us the Cliff’s Notes? Some of us are behind the great firewall and don’t have the luxury of the time suck that is YouTube.
So forget the stupid, "fight fair" idea. Don't let your opposite get up or catch his breath and don't turn your back on him.
Know the parts of the human body that can be damaged and will cause major injury or death. Learn how to hit those parts. Learn what to hit those parts with.
If you have a weapon, from nail file to gun, use it.
Your goal is to get away alive. That is your only goal.
Fight rules
Most of you what you do in a “fight” will land you in jail. If you’re assaulted, that’s a different story.
1. Assume they are carrying a weapon.
2. Your knife is to be felt not seen.
3. Use deception to close the distance.
4. Do not play the MMA game in a life or death situation.
5. When weapons are involved, fight dirty.
6. Do not fight unless you have to.
Video is worth watching.
Done.
If you’re assaulted, kill him.
You’ll never know whether he would proceed to kill you.
My sincerest thanks.

However, here is my list:
1) ALWAYS maintain situational awareness
2) ALWAYS be armed with as much firepower as you can control and comfortably carry.
3) ALWAYS have enough ammunition to fight your way back to your vehicle for better firearms.
4) ALWAYS have tertiary comms capability (voice, cellular, ham radio/GMRS/FRS/CB)
5) NEVER live in HOAs, Democrat led neighborhoods, cities, counties, or states.
6) NEVER say anything to a police investigation other than the basics such as: "I was in fear for my life, that person tried to kill me, I'll be happy to help your investigation officer, but I think I am having a heart attack/I can't breath, I need medical assistance. We'll meet again after I'm treated and IN THE PRESENCE OF MY ATTORNEY!"
7) NEVER get within distance of a knife fight. (Well, I guess Situational awareness may cover that one).
There are certain principles that apply.
The most pertinent is the principle of ‘escalating level of force’.
If you did not initiate the fight (presumed, but not assumed), and someone comes at you with fists, and you have no Capsicum/Mace, pick up a stick. However, there is no defense to using the stick as a deadly weapon by going for the head.
If they come at you with a stick, have a better weapon or an escape route. Bad things get worse fast.
If they come at you with anything you perceive as a deadly weapon, observe the 21-foot rule, armed or not. Otherwise you’re as good as dead. Armed? You better know your weapon, have it available and be ready to use it.
If they have a gun, well...if you’re not armed and don’t already have a plan, you better have worked through that scenario before, because the cops WILL be there to do the paperwork and process the crime scene...
Golden rule 1 (as stated): Getting home safe.
Golden rule 2: Theoretical scenario (BEFORE the incident)...How did you let the situation escalate to this? And, if not, how will you respond? Thinking during a fight is already too late. The winner is the one that reacts fastest. Scenario, scenario, scenario, practice, practice, practice.
Golden rule 3: Best weapon...is between your ears.
And, as stated, a fair fight is for ‘the ring’, not with an aggressor...but smart to ‘have a chair’ when the music stops (know what will land you in, and keep you out of, jail, let alone any liability).
I do not subscribe to the ‘physical contest’ meme of those with more brawn than brain. Ego kills. I can, and will, walk away and feel no less of a man for it. The aggressor that crosses me hasn’t a clue what they’re dealing with...but there is no vaccine for stupidity.

Also assume you are being videoed to possibly be the flavor of the day on World star Hip Hop, think knockout game.
I also try to only carry what I can explain away because LE is most likely to get involved post incident but if the attack is in an isolated area with no witnesses, all bets are off.
