Question of the Day: Would You Name Your Child After a Gun or Gunmaker?
By Robert Farago on February 23, 2014
In 2002, only 194 babies were named Colt, the dailybeast.com reports, while in 2012 there were 955. Just 185 babies were given the name Remington in 2002, but by 2012 the number had jumped to 666. Uh-oh. Perhaps the most surprising of all, however, is a jump in the name Rugers (Americas leading firearm manufacturer) from just 23 in 2002 to 118 in 2012 . . . In 1999, Gunner ranked 739th on the list of the Official Social Security sites 1000 most popular names for boysby 2012 it jumped to 293rd. Remington, for both girls and boys, spiked in the last few years as well, starting at 731st place in 1999 and jumping to 421nd a decade later.

Is Blunderbuss taken?
Ping.
Thompson would be good...call him Tommy.
John is so pedestrian....though John for Browning or Thompson, or Garand...
Gene for Stoner
Bill for Ruger
(or how bout Mike for Kalashnickov?)
Oliver for Winchester
Sam for Colt
“I named the first boy ‘Thirty Cal.’”
I do not think I could name a kid....
Eliphalet
for Remington
How many of Obama’s sons are neamed “Colt 45”?
Besdies, who wants to be named after a typewriter.
Remington is a great name, not necessarily a gun. The name Remington was associated with a sword and knife maker at one time, right?
Colt isn’t necessarily a gun either.
I like the name Sig ...
A rapper’s baby could be “Fiddy Cal”.
Now I have that commercial with Bill Dee Williams in my head...
Howitzer?
I considered “Emsixty” but it would have been shortened to “Em” and that didn’t sound appealing...
There was a Remington who did great sculpture’s too.
the favorite handgun, in my possession, is a Remington Rand...and of course a typewriter company manufactured this excellent bone stock weapon made in early 1944, plenty of time for D-Day.
Better than naming them “Obama” or “Hillary”.
At least Colt has produced something other than bullsh*t and idiocy.
I’m kind of partial to ‘Bushmaster’, myself.
'Gadsen' is a great name also.
I think that’s how many of them were conceived.
