Release a day, or so, ago..
“for less tech folks”.... Understood... I always recommend Mint for the Win crossovers (I tried so many packages of Linux for the past decade and 1/2... Mint, finally won me over..) ... ask them to run live from Cinn or Mate... if they like them, I move them toward KDE... but, Linux is a wide open world, and we have to make sure that they all know that there IS another option... and it is their choice ;^)
This the same Oracle that has VB?
VB? As in Viual Basic? That’s Microsoft.
The beauty of Linux is that you’re not stuck on a particular UI.
Full disclosure: I use Ubuntu Server 12.04 which does not have a GUI, and I’m on Ubuntu 10.04 for desktop using Gnome.
I think I’ll skip this thread, I don’t have any idea what the heck you guys are talking about and no need to explain, Ciao
As soon as I am more comfy with using the console, I will probably go back to the simpler system myself..

Yes—Oracle is the force behind VirtualBox. I’ve moved from that (was using them for quite a while) over to kvm as VirtualBox always required a kmod update when updating kernel.
was was deleted (post 23)? what did I miss?
/johnny
Hmm—not sure. I know I read it since I did not see a missing post before. But I cannot remember what post #23 was.
I stay with it for a couple of years.
Lol, may have been a WinFanBoi or MacFanBoi... was just curious ;^)
There’s a sense of power and a sense of dread I have with it. In my many years as an engineer, I’ve always found Windows to use the same formula, so when you need something, it’s generally in the same place from OS to OS.
However, with Linux, there are different distros and different ways of doing everything. While I find something simple in one distro, another distro might be perplexing and frustrating (I’m looking at you update.RC!).
Can you give me an idea about the differences? I know I can google it, but I try to avoid that NSA crap :/
Whatever it was, I didn’t think it was bad at all—I didn’t even look twice at it.
That is actually a great point.. (talking open source, and always changing)..
heck, been sitting here for about 5 minutes traying to think of a good reason to even USE Win (no idea about Mac).. only thing I can think of, is if you are wanting to play Win Games.. sometimes I do, but in this day and age, I hold back :p
Maybe, once every 2 (or so) months, I will jump on Win to play a game (when I get extremely bored)... :p I used to hack DOS games :p
The biggest one I'm looking forward to is the stabilization of btrfs. Other than that, though, I think it's mainly an evolutionary release. I typically reinstall from baremetal, but when I went F18 --> F19, I thought I'd try to fedup (Fedora Upgrade) process. It worked well, but my system now has leftover stuff from two versions (stuff I install to play with, then remove--leaving old dependencies behind), so it's time for a fresh metal install.
That’s the ONLY reason I still have a Windows gaming system. With Steam going the Linux route more and more, I’m hoping that big gaming companies like Blizzard, Bethesda, and maybe even EA go the route of porting to or even programming on NIX platforms in the future.
Windows has always been about “convenience” for people who refused to use NIX. Having been a devout NIX user now for going on 7 years, I won’t look back.
