I dont sweat the big things, Im sure there are a million articles on them already and you have read them all, but I hope there are a few little things here that will give you food for though, and that might just save your life some day.

Good idea. I’ve been working on doubling everything actually.
“Yeah, my cholesterol was high when last checked, but my good cholesterol was high too.”
Eating eggs normally does not cause colesterol to be high. In one study of burn patients who were fed up to 18 eggs a day as part of their treatment, cholesterol was checked at start and at end of treatment. Their cholesterol went down.
Also, there is no such thing as ‘bad’ cholesterol. The cholesterol measured in our blood stream is produced by the liver...because the body absolutely has to have cholesterol to live. Statin drugs stop the production of cholesterol by the liver. Statin drugs do not prevent heart attack, and they do cause Alzheimer’s like symptoms.
When people ask me if I worry about my cholesterol my answer is ‘only if it goes too low’. A cholesterol reading of 250 is much more healthy than 150. And this is even more true as we get older.
Little things matter.
And always think things through.
Contingency planning eliminates a lot of problems later.
also thanks for the ping.
Yeah...it can be tough.
I know old timers that say refrigeration ruins eggs. They’d bury them in straw in the barn and use them all winter.
Wet wipes are good too, but I love the big thicker bath packs that they use in the hospital. When my dad was sick, I stayed with him 24/7, and the nurses used to give me a warm pack now and then. It was such a good feeling to have a warm cloth that left you feeling so clean.
So I splurged and got some. I have the wet wipes too, but I am going to get some more of the bath packs for a little extra TLC on occasion.LOL
I’ll check those out as I haven’t used any of those.
But I also recommend putting them on the other side of the garden from your bell and sweet banana peppers, as the bees will cross-pollinate them for you (personal experience here...a cayenne/bell pepper is rather spicy when you aren't expecting it).
Local folks think I am crazy and nothing is going to happen. They don’t even stock water or candles!
People in groups I belong too are all too far away to plan to walk to them. They seem to be family exclusive anyway,
I am OK going it alone.
I get grumpy if I don’t eat, not to mention slow.
The other side of my plan is reduced rations. i have considered it many times, and I know there are times to do it, but I don’t think the early weeks of SHTF are such a time. Those are the time to eat healthy and make sure you are always in peak condition. I can do reduced rations once I am sure the zombies are where they belong, but I suspect there will be multiple zombie waves, and I won’t feel secure until I know the last one has passed.
I am well trained by Red Cross and was an instructor years ago. All these groups have age limits...
Good idea though about a big white shirt with a red+ on it front and back. I think I will add that to my back of the door “bug out” outfit.
My first aid kit has splints and lots of triangle bandages too...I have about a dozen sheets but still have not cut them up since I don’t know what shape might be needed.
Running water is an old jug with a hole punched in the lowest corner. Put a golf tee in the hole to stop the flow while you tie it wherever is handy, with a cord or bungee, since the handle is strong and built in. Don’t forget the small ends of soap in an old knee-hi stocking that hang from the handle and save, as well as dry out, the soap. It can serve as a washcloth or scrubbee too. Temperature is not something I have thought about. A black container might heat up quickly in full sun.
Know of anything that comes in a safe black container? Chemicals and oil is all I can think of.
Thanks for the ideas...I will work on a new location for the sheets and tape and scissors with them! ( Currently getting them out would expose some of my food supply!)
I need to take your advice on the wet wipes though. It’s a good plan, and I should have them. It’s now on my agenda for the next 30 days. [This note is as much to myself and to others as it is to you.]
Two good balanced meals and two favorite comfort food snacks for me. That nightime snack with my tea and a book in bed is a habit I don’t even want to try to break!
That shows good planning...I have to move the large packages of paper each time I have guests who need to have the second bath look nice! I think the wipes as an alternate bath idea would cut the storage space greatly.
Now I am wondering what I could do with all the seldom used towels under that 8-10 foot cabinet too!! LOL
Thanks!
I used to get grumpy and slow when I didn’t eat...then I started following the CAVEMAN diet....no more hungry, grumpy
For a couple years we had chickens. Loved the fresh eggs we got every day. At one point we noticed that we weren’t getting as many eggs. Then we found out why...some chickens were laying eggs in and among the bales of hay we had in the barn for our horses. This was during the summer and it got pretty hot in the barn loft. We collected more than a hundred eggs there. Only one failed the float test. Those eggs were still really good to eat, and we figure some had been there for up to three months. Eggs last a long time, unrefrigerated and unwashed, even in temps that must have been around 100 degrees at times.
The old timers were on to something.
