Don't make the same mistake once. |
Word to my son
- By: Larry Walker II -
A police officer once explained to me, as he poked his finger into my chest, If you so much as touch another person, like this, without their consent, you have committed simple battery, and if that person calls the police you will be arrested.
Since the law is undisputed, then isnt the act of walking up to a total stranger, punching him in the face, and then attempting to inflict as much bodily damage as humanly possible also a crime? Certainly, and although this may be painful for race-baiting rabble-rousers, had Trayvon Martin (T) survived the infamous brawl, which he himself commenced, he would have certainly been charged with a crime. Let us face the facts; T is the one who assaulted George Zimmerman (Z), as the evidence proved.
Unbeknownst to a tiny segment of the population, roughly 0.2% (700,000 petition signers out of a population of more than 313,000,000), watching a suspicious person in your neighborhood and reporting them to the police is not a crime. Lord only knows how many times Ive done that, White, Black, Hispanic or whatever, and the police generally say they appreciate it. Most of the crimes that happen around here occur when least expected, in the middle of the night when no one is looking out, so its wise to keep a watch, especially in your own neighborhood.
In my early 20s I worked as a security guard for a short time. One of my jobs involved guarding a large industrial facility, all alone, from the middle of the night until the wee hours of the morning. Among my duties was to periodically get out of the car and physically walk every square inch of the grounds. So I have an idea just how dangerous keeping watch can be. Luckily there were no incidents in my day, but it was kind of scary at times wondering what may lie around the next corner, and at the same time, the thought of being the one who might break up some major crime was rather exhilarating. It so happens that patrolling your own neighborhood in the same manner isnt a crime at all.
Getting out of your vehicle to see where a suspicious person may have gone isnt a crime either, although it may be dangerous. But even your grandfather, whos now around 76 years old, is commissioned to drive around his neighborhood as part of the neighborhood watch crew. That man never ceases to amaze me. But theyve had a lot of thefts in that area, so everyone in the neighborhood knows one another and they have made a commitment to keep their eyes open. While keeping watch on your own neighborhood is not a crime, assaulting another human being is.
Who called the cops?
When it comes to assault and battery, intent is an essential element. Under the laws of most of the States, it is only necessary to have the intent to commit the act that causes the harm. In other words, the assault must be voluntarily. Did T intend to assault Z? Well, lets think about that for a minute. Which one called the cops? Common sense dictates that a person about to commit a criminal act generally doesnt stop and call the police a forehand? According to the evidence most of us saw and heard, it was Z who called the police, not T.
The way I understand it, T is the one who confronted Z, stepping out of nowhere and asking him if he had a problem. When Z said no, T told him he had one now and then proceeded to punch him in the face and bash his head repeatedly against a concrete sidewalk. As I alluded to earlier, inflicting physical harm on anyone for any reason is generally a crime, that is, unless its done in self-defense or in the middle of a boxing ring where there is mutual consent. Did T assault Z? Apparently so, as the bloodied nose and wounds on the back of the latters head would later testify. So as I stated above, had T survived the gunshot wound, he would most certainly have been charged with a crime.
The lame excuse that Z, who turned out to be the neighborhood watch captain, was following him and reporting him to the police, doesnt hold water as far as justification for an assault. Initially, T may have been a kid carrying a bag of candy and an iced tea trying to get home, but at some point his actions became those of a NWAA (n-word with an attitude), hell bent on ambushing a stranger and cracking his skull open. Unfortunately for T, he chose the wrong cracka (a 19th Century southern slave owner). Some people dont play like that son. I dont play like that. Im too old to be street brawling with some juvenile delinquent with a chip on his shoulder. I dont blame Z for fighting back with what he had at his disposal, in this case a gun.
So what was T thinking? What was his plan? To kill Z and dispose of the body? To knock him unconscious and then run home hoping to never see him again? To cripple Z, so he could never testify against him? What exactly was Ts plan? That is the question. I dont care what injustice you may imagine someone has committed against you, if they havent touched you physically and you decide to lay your hands on them suddenly, in a violent and vicious manner, and they perceive that you are trying to take their very life, survival instincts will kick in, and somebody will wind up dead, justifiably you.
The lesson: If you step up on a stranger, with the intent of unleashing bodily harm, for whatever reason, then you should know that it may be the last act you ever commit.
Does your life show enough evidence1?
Once in my early 20s I impulsively traveled to Houston, Texas (long story) where I became stranded after a group of Mexican gang members stole my car and my money. I felt ashamed, embarrassed and disgraced. I called the police and they came out, but they didnt believe me because I had nothing to prove to them that I even owned a car, since I wasnt a resident. As I walked through the streets aimlessly, wondering what to do, I started to notice that I was being followed. If I went a couple of blocks to the left or to the right, the same car full of Mexicans would reappear, wantonly staring me down. As nightfall approached, I began to get scared because I had nowhere to go, and didnt know a soul in that city. So what did I do?
I gave up. I didnt have the answer. So I began to pray, right there on the street, God please get me out of this, and I promise I will never stray again. Then a pay phone appeared, so I placed a collect call to your grandfather (the only other person next to God who really cared about me). I explained my dilemma, and he told me to call the police again and ask them to get me out of that area, and then call him back when I was safe. So I ran across the street to a fast food restaurant and asked the manager to please call the police because I was being followed and feared for my life. He did and the police came. Although a little reluctant, they decided what they could do was drive me a couple of miles down the road and then I was on my own.
To make a long story short, the police dropped me off at a hotel where I was able to call your grandfather back, and he was able to wire some money so I could buy a bus ticket and get the heck out of that awful city. I would submit this to you son, if you think someone is following you, and you feel uncomfortable about it, your first act should be to call on the Lord. But you should know that by now. Then if you can get to a phone or happen to have one in the palm of your hand, call the police and let them handle it. T had choices to make and he chose wrong. Not knowing how to handle the situation, he decided to take the immature route, like many young men do these days. He assumed that Z was a creepy looking person who was following him and therefore deserving of a T-style beat down.
What could T have done differently?
What did T do when he thought he was being followed? Did he call the police? No, instead he chose to take matters into his own hands. So he ambushed Z, and delivered the first blow. Now thats a good way to get yourself killed son, because you never know what kind of weapon your victim is carrying. Thus, Im not surprised by the outcome.
He could have simply walked up to Z and asked him who he was, whether or not he was following him, and if so, why. For all T knew, Z could have been an undercover cop, a security guard, or a member of the neighborhood watch patrol. How would he know without asking, and why would he not ask since he had just as much right to be there as anyone else?
Since T had already gotten away from Z, who lost sight of him for around 4 minutes, he could have simply ran home, or continued hiding until Z left the area. Had he done so, the police would have eventually arrived and found out what was really going on.
If T was really concerned for his own safety, he could have simply dialed 911, instead of squandering valuable phone-time describing the situation to his lady-friend. Had he done so, the police would have promptly phoned Z and told him that T was just a kid who lives in the neighborhood.
Conclusion
If I had a son would he look like Trayvon? Well, in my case I dont have to speculate, because I am blessed to have a son, and to me he doesnt look anything like Trayvon. Some say he looks like me when I was younger, but hes really a cross between his mother and me. But thats not the point. Looks are deceiving. What matters most is the content of your character.
I pray to God son that you never choose to act out like T. Please dont handle your affairs in that manner. If something is going down, and youre not sure how to handle it, please call me. I have learned some of lifes more bitter lessons and may be able to offer at least a tiny smidgen of advice. And if Im not around, hide yourself if you can, and then call the cops. I beg of you, if at all possible, dont take matters into your own hands. If a bird lands on your head, you dont have to let it build a nest.
Do these three things and you will not fail: Resist evil with good, lay hands on no man suddenly, and do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Ts fatal mistake came the moment he decided to physically assault Z. It wasnt so much the act itself, but rather the decision to commit the act that matters. Heres a word for you son, Think it all the way through. Whenever you have a crazy thought, just ask yourself this question: And then what? That is the beginning of wisdom, and all wisdom is from the Lord.

Excellent !
Here is a case of a black man wearing a hoodie who shot and killed a white 17 year old in Rochester, NY. Does anyone remember this incident? It was in 2009, however, he was found not guilty ...jury decided it was...........
SELF-DEFENSE!

Perhaps, but the other evidence corroborates GZ's account in virtually every detail we do know. GZ walked the detective through his "story" the next day. (Have you seen it - it is on YouTube.) GZ could not have possibly known at that time whether any "lie" in his "story" would hold up under scrutiny -- any window in that densely populated area might have held someone watching. He would have been exceedingly foolish to lie. Logically, then, since his account was truthful in the details we do know, it is almost certainly truthful in the rest, as best he could remember it. (Given the trauma of the incident, I am amazed he recalled as much as accurately as he did.)
The wounds on TM are the gunshot wound. The wounds on GZ are a smashed nose and cuts & scraps on his head. Could GZs wounds have happened after TM suffered his gun shot wound? Extremely unlikely. If TM had other than the gunshot wound (or scraped knuckles) then there would be room for speculation, but there are no such wounds. TM assaulted GZ. The physical evidence, the eye witness, all support this conclusion. There is no evidence otherwise.
And he gets his gun back (Actually, no he doesn’t)

Too bad half of the so called conservatives talk show hosts Ive been listening to cant seem to be willing to connect the dots to what a heavy hand his imperious highness played in this example of socialist justice meted out to serve the policies of the state . Turning this into a show trial replete with wall to wall tv coverage..The least they can do is get the facts out for tthe reason for the trial and its outcome instead of cope-ing with Obama moving the ball futhur and furthur away from what was done. while they’re milking the emotion response.routine like “big brother “does..
Like having local publications like the The New Amsterdam whatits follow like martinets, or is duped by the handouts of lies theyre getting from this government.
.For certain since the not guilty verdict has been rendered the facts of this case are still being concealed by the media such as not using pictures of both side by side because they look like cousins.
Many Neigborhood Watch areas consist of modest dwellings including the one Zimmerman was a watch captain in.His was a mini US melting pot which includes a number of black families which banded together and set up patrols to protect their area. In this case they were struggling with single and groups of young blacks from other hoods on the prowl., In some instances armed, preying on homeowners in his area..Their activities are co-ordinated with the local police departments and most conservative hosts demonstrate their ignorance by not bringing this up.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3043817/posts
Usually such neighborhood watch areas are posted with a window or garden sign announcing that fact and those patrols will observe any one; black, white, green, or blue and sometimes even stop and question them. ..That fact and the area wasnt even examinined by any of the so called media because it wouldnt fit their agenda if true journalisim existed, because it couldnt support any racial assertion..
It might even explain Zimmermans action taken during his surveilance of Martin because this watch volunteer got out of his car and continued his observation on foot because he lost sight of Martin. In many watch areas thats done frequently when the subject disappears from view they may leave their vehicle and continue surveilance on foot.. ....
According to the testimony there was an exchange after which Zimmerman was going back to his vehicle when Martin attacked him and was severly beating him to the extent he feared for his life. To put it bluntly Saint Trayvon was a smart ass punk who attacked a guy with a gun and got killed in the struggle over it when he had the guy on the ground beating the hell out of him..
Obama in his latest attempt to move away threw more gas on the fire portraying by Saint Trayvon as what he was an irreponsible kid..That explains Bengahazi, where he left a top American diplomat and his aides die and the rest of his scandals he hopes his diatribes will hide. .
Even after learning the shooter was a staunch Obama supporter, not Jewish, and a very dark skinned hispanic Obama did nothing to curtail the hyperbole or tone down his edict creating this as a racist episode. Obama the boss of bosses and gets all the information about anybody ignored Zimmermans defence of a homeless black maltreated by a local police officer which resulted in the disciplining of the offending officer at Zimmermans insistance .
The socialists controlling the media propaganda machine oblidged.. They began claiming the exclusive gated neighborhood watch captain was a white hispanic . used a picture of a 12 year old Martin instead of the 6 foot 165 pound person he was vs the smaller 140 pound lttle fatty neighborhood watch captain. Worse yet allowed his US Attorney General to use questionable activities to promote a show trial and ignored using a threat of prosecution to black militant groups threatening the watch captains life.
Do not confuse todays politicians and their ahearants in the press and academia as followers of Liberalism. . These are die hard God denying Im right youre wrong socialists incapable of independent thinking running todays media.. Devising political campaigns of lies and manipulated inflamatory languange disguised as news or reliable information designed to destroy any opponent or group to what is edict-ed by their leader. You must wind up goose-stepping in unison protecting the collective otherwise we will through the use of government step on you and squash you like some insect..
It’s amazing watching these race hustlers and Trayvon apologists on the various cable shows.
They claim Trayvon did nothing wrong and he was justified in attacking GZ for “Stalking” him.
So now the liberal logic is that it’s OK for Blacks to assault “Whites” if they “antagonize” them by walking behind them, or perhaps locking their car doors in their presence.
This country is lost. It’s gone. I expect riots this weekend and I expect the media to excuse the behavior of these criminals.
I suggest if you are the slightest shade lighter of Obama to carry protection this weekend and beyond.
Trayvon Martin was a hoodlum - he was caught with burglary tools and stolen jewelery, had conspired with a friend to buy a gun, was suspended from school and that’s just what we know about, no thanks to the media.
GZ is an upstanding citizen that tutored children, watched over his neighborhood and now his life if ruined and he has a target on his back and even the POTUS has his name high on his shit list.
Like I said, this country is gone - the liberals in media, labor, academia and politics have flushed it down the toilet.
Detroit is a preview of what the rest of America will look like under further Dem “Leadership” in a few years.
And people criticize me for wanting to retire elsewhere?
Sorry, but the left has turned this country into Bizzaro world where hoodlums like Trayvon Martin are idolized, communists and America-haters are elected President, working people are being taxed to death to support a nation of deadbeats, people can’t defend themselves anymore against thugs without being put on trial and having their lives ruined, and so on and so on.
President Obama says you can “diss” a guy by locking your car doors. So apparently your damned if you stay in the car too.
Great article but the writer is trying to assign a value system to a segment of society who has notoriously poor impulse control.
TM would have NEVER called the police; remember his dad was a gang member, the police are the abject enemy, and calling them is what soft ass white people do. If you gonna “keep it one hundred, you handle yo business yo’self”. Their words, not mine, but I have heard them many, many times over the years. Those words and attitude are what perpetuate the complete downward spiral of the black community.
Not supporting programs like Neighborhood Watch is another. When a great percentage of your society is transient in nature, (renters vs. homeowners) why would give a rip about your home, much less your neighborhood?
There are very few civic values to be found in places where TM lives. But there were some where he died.
You can bring bogus abusive husband excuses in the case of Lorena bobbit, or abortion for that matter, but, hey, you are white, no self defense for you.
Their code is mob rule. By himself a black guy is generally very nice. Put him amongst his members or “lawyers”, and watch the dance of abuse begin willy nilly, all smiles and happy.
Nah too simple and easy to understand. There is a need to exploit the situation.
I hear door locks all the time when I walk through a parking lot.Tells me some one is being safe not racially profiling me.
Talking ourselves blue in the face, perpetually describing the facts, will not win or influence race hustlers and leftists. The true race hustler is invested in the game to extract something for themselves, namely worldly goods and political power, oh, and to inflict guilt where there is none. They’re not in it for healing the soul of America. They are strife creators, hate mongers, vengeful people caring nothing for love of God, but only how to lay guilt and blame so as to tyrannize the rest of us... and Obama is the principle hustler. See what Rev. David Manning thinks of Obama... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4KcfsZL3iI

I made the comment yesterday that you cannot watch the walk through and logically think that Zimmerman was lying. If he were lying the police would have inevitably caught one inconsistency after another. They did not because he was telling the truth through the whole thing. Anybody who has any doubt about Zimmerman’s story should watch that video.
My only complaint with the author’s article is that he continues to follow the left’s use of Trayvon Martin’s first name and George Zimmerman’s last. That might work if we were talking about a little child, which is why the left probably does it just like the use an old picture of Martin. The participants in this event are either Martin and Zimmerman or Trayvon and George, never Trayvon and Zimmerman.
