To all freepers on social security disability, when checking my direct deposit into bank account. I was reduced by $136.65. Has this happened to anyone else.

That can’t be true. Obama promised me it wouldn’t happen. He wouldn’t lie to me, would he?

You are on disability right? You start out being enrolled in Medicare Part A. After a period of time they send you enrollment for Part B. You do not have to sign on for Part B, but if you did, they will remove the monthly cost from your check.

If you do not sign up for Part B when it is offered, they will charge you more later.

The White Hut must be beta testing their future two track health care payment system...’bluebirds’ get one level of coverage and ‘redbirds’ get a second level of coverage...we all know who their ‘preferred’ customers will be.

I’ll know later today. The copay on my prescriptions increased $80.00 in January.

Good point and more information on Medicare eligibility for SSDI recipients here:

http://www.ssa.gov/disabilityresearch/wi/medicare.htm

Will a beneficiary get Medicare coverage?

Everyone eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits is also eligible for Medicare after a 24-month qualifying period. The first 24 months of disability benefit entitlement is the waiting period for Medicare coverage. During this qualifying period for Medicare, the beneficiary may be eligible for health insurance through a former employer. The employer should be contacted for information about health insurance coverage.

after having to write a substantial check to the IRS, this sounds like whining to me.

You can always choose another route that doesn’t rely on a check from the government. That would be my suggestion to you. Obviously you are good at accounting to the penny, maybe you could do that for somebody in lieu of a disability check from the government?

“we all know who their ‘preferred’ customers will be”

I just paid for some prescriptions I needed yesterday. With my own money. You could always just pay for your medicine if you wanted to.

Do you have a cellphone, cable? Why are you complaining?

Okay, now that I’ve had my first sip of coffee...

Hubby’s SSDI hasn’t changed lately.

As I recall (and granted, my memory sucks) after he had been on it for two years, he was automatically signed up for Medicare. He’s had TriCare since before it was Champus, and he never wanted Medicare. But apparently TriCare has a rule that required him to be signed up for Medicare. The premium for that is taken out of his SSDI each month.

They used to send us crap in the mail all the time, trying to get him signed up for Medicare. He had great coverage with TriCare Prime, so he didn’t want Medicare. Eventually I just filed everything Medicare related with the AARP crap. File 13. Then one day they started taking money out of his SSDI, signed him up for Medicare, changed him from TriCare Prime to TriCare For Life, and made Medicare his primary insurance. I never saw the notice they probably sent. It took me over a year to get straight answers on what had happened. Those answers came from TriCare. I never did get a straight answer from Medicare or SSDI.

I haven’t noticed any difference in coverage or care. The only difference is the premium. We’re still paying for TriCare Prime, but now we get to pay for Medicare too, for the same coverage we already had.

The Social Security Administration is running out of money. The SSA has been sending letters to social security recipients of all stripes informing them that they have been overpaid in the past and that their benefits will be reduced (in some cases to nothing for many monthS) until the “debt” is repaid to the SSA.

Contact the SSA office nearest you to determine what happened. You may have still receive a reduced benefit, but you may be able to lengthen the payback time or at least plan for the future.

Fraklin Delano Roosevelt’s Ponzi scheme is about to collapse.

Let me clarify. I was just joking when I said that. In light of a couple recent comments, maybe I should have used an end-liberal-idiocy tag. I wouldn’t want to be lumped in with any morons who truly believe in wealth redistribution.

It possibly depends on the type of Medicare and drug prescription you have.

Part D is an automatic deduction.

If you have Medicare Advantage, the drug plan premium may be included in it. The MA plan may also have a premium.

It all depends whether you MA, and if so, what plan under it you have.

The copay on my prescriptions increased $80.00 in January.

That depends on what plan you have. If you have regular Medicare you must also have a Prescription Drug plan.

If you have Medicare Advantage, you have more options for coverage, based on your state.

Some MA plans in my state have $0 deduction for premiums (except for the regular Medicare Part D premium). Premiums for those plans may vary. Also, the same with the prescription plans. Some have up to $180 deductible before the plan kicks in; other have $0 deductions and as little as $0 to $3 copays.

==

It is essential to read the Medicare and You booklet for your state and compare the various coverages listed at the back of that booklet.

Medicare and You for the next year usually comes out in October of each year.
