Vitacost dropped Rush Limbaugh as a sponsor yesterday. Seems that the company is already trying to backpedal after receiving tons of negative feedback.
Yesterday's message:
Wed like to address an issue with our radio ads -- one of which aired on the Rush Limbaugh radio show. To put it frankly, Mr. Limbaugh's recent comments have been unsettling, and many of our fans have voiced concern that Vitacost endorses these views. These comments are definitely not in line with our brand values, and in listening to our fans we've decided to remove our advertising from the program.
And today's soft reinterpretation:
Here at Vitacost.com, our goal is to take the cost out of healthy living by offering thousands of healthy products at affordable prices. To promote this mission, we launched a national radio advertising campaign in January that airs on many different programs, including the Rush Limbaugh show. As a result of the derogatory comments Mr. Limbaugh made on his program, we decided to remove our advertising. We appreciate and support Mr. Limbaughs right to voice his opinion, just not how he delivered his message. Our decision was in no way a statement about Mr. Limbaughs or his listeners political views, but rather his lack of respect for another human being. Vitacost.com takes healthy living very seriously, and we believe that respect for others is a huge part of that healthy lifestyle.Thank you,
David Zucker, CMO

PS: If you're on Facebook, "Like" Vitacost. I have been dropping bombs every time they post a new entry on their Facebook page!
PPS: see the last message I posted to yesterday's thread (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2854873/posts) -- I did some comparisons between Vitacost and other vendors who were mentioned. Swanson and iHerb came out on top; Puritan, close second.

That wasn’t much of a backpedal.... More like a sidestep ...
The competitors to those who abandoned Rush should be sharpening their advertising ideas and stepping forward to pick up Rush’s huge audience base.
Emailed Shari’s Berries (owned by ProFlowers) yesterday and told them I was dropping their company from my gift list. Hate that because I love their chocolate covered cherries. I don’t agree with what Limbaugh said, it was crude and uncalled for, but I do defend his right to say it.
Bunch of not too bright chicks at Georgetown.
Does anyone know how to contact the adm here?

Received an email from my mom (I’m down here in Aussie-land) and she wrote Vitacost cancelling their account. My family spends quite a bit on supplements from them. No more.
I dropped Shari’s berries this Christmas because everytime I order from them around a Holiday, the berries arrive a few days late. However, Shari’s berries did get a few hundred dollars of business from me over the last 2 years, only because of Rush.
Oh Rush was rude to “another human being”. Boo hoo cry me a river.
I’m sure there are many other companies that make the same kind of choc covered cherries. Sharri’s only did that well because of Rush’s audience.
Thanks!
I would suggest “taste testing” every brand. :-)
When they get ugly maher and others who said terrible things about Sarah Palin and Bachmann to apologize then I will listen. Until then? like you said: Cry me a River!!!
Yeah. Backpedal means they put their advertisements back on Limbaugh.
You stoopid Fluke! You are saying you don’t want Rush listeners as customers.
Are you really big enough to skip that market segment? Really? You need to ask that question and I don’t think you or many of the other advertisers can, nor do you realize why many purchase your product in the 1st place.
They buy on the word and recommendation of Rush and on his word alone. he carries a huge integrity quotient that results in higher than usual 1st spends and greater stickiness of additional spends with sponsors of his show.
You are intellectually bankrupt and your business will soon be as well.
Later Tater.....
fluke (n); a class of parasitic flatworm.
But not unfair. What Limbaugh did was not gentlemanly, and an Freeper who adheres to traditional manners had to be disappointed with what he did.
It's pretty much factual, IMO.
Oh..but Conservatives are held to a higher standard!!
I'll bet you would call a liar, a liar. And a cheat, a cheat.
What's the difference in calling a slut, a slut?
Should Conservatives call them...young women of experience?
Well when a single women comes before Congress and basically tells the world she needs more free contraceptive ideas... ...she's one of three things.
A plant.
A nympho
Or nuts.
