Seems like after the crash yesterday the "Popular Keywords" all changed in the top right of the screen and were replaced with some that are completely bogus such as "tothemanorborn"???? I use this handy feature to quickly get to groups of tagged articles. Some of the missing ones that have been there for years are "palin" and "sarahpalin", santorum is new, and some of the others but a few old good ones like "banglist" are still there.
Weird...
Hadn’t noticed. But Syria & Iran are hot topics, and they’re not even listed.
Yea You....
I wanna know....
What do I want to know?
What is the Freqency Kenneth?
What is it?
Tell me.....
Maybe the count of recent postings for the tags was set back to zero in the rebuild yesterday, so only things posted in the past day are included in the popular list.
No idea, but most likely the stats were cleared & the index needs to be rebuilt.
I noticed this about a week ago. I have been typing in “palin” frequently to see if it returns. It is weird because I’m sure there are still a lot of Freepers who are interested in what Sarah’s doing. She really does have forces lined up against her, even on FR it seems.
This was the first that I recall FR crashed for a full day.
It’s a BritCom, replayed on PBS in the mid-90s. Somewhat funny, IMO.
‘Talk about making a case for new servers... ;)
The Keyword function was broken for a long time and seems to have been repaired recently. That is why certain keywords remained on the list.
In the past, when it was working correctly, the popular keywords would change according to the frequency they were added to articles. And the frequency had to reach a certain threshold (10 IIRC) before a new keyword would appear. So, for example, if the next 10 articles posted were concerning Sarah Palin and FReepers added the keyword “palin” to those articles, the popular keyword list would be updated with “palin”.
There was an “aging” function where if a keyword wasn’t added to posted articles during a certain time frame, the keyword would drop off the list. Also, when a Freeper added a keyword, their screen name was logged and the FR Moderators had access to that log. So if someone was considered to be “spamming” keywords on articles (such as tothemanorborn), they would most likely receive a warning FReep mail from the Mods.
At least that’s how it used to work. Not sure if there have been changes to the system since it’s been fixed.
By the way, who all owns and has interest FR?
It wasn’t quite “full day”, and I’m guessing John will take some pride in getting a post back onto the site less than 24 hours after the last post before the crash. :-)
“Whatsthematterhorn”.........LOL
To the manor born.
Thanks for the chuckle...good one.
I usually just type the wanted keyword into the “Search” box and do a search since the default is set to Keywords.
Can’t take credit for it, but it was a good one, LOL.
