Rum—Club Havana, if you can get it—or Barbancourt.

Bourbon. Although Evan Williams has an eggnog pre-spiked with a blend of Kentucky bourbon, rum, and brandy that’s pretty good. Just add nutmeg.

Hear, Hear!

When I drinks Bourbon, I drinks Bourbon. When I drinks Eggnog, I sure as hell don’t waste the good stuff.

Blimey! Makers Mark in Eggnog? Is there nothing sacred?

Something relatively sweet. I haven’t tried brandy but that’d probably do. I have had Southern Comfort in eggnog - mighty tasty. But not something you want a lot of. (I prefer just sippin’ whiskey or a nice merlot)

Lately I’ve been drinking Glenmorangie Scotch (Quinta Ruban) very smooth. I think I will have one tonight, in fact!

Brandy or rum are traditional. One thing you should do is grate a little fresh nutmeg on each cup you serve. I buy the whole seeds (keep for ever unlike ground spices) and use my microplane fine grater. Big difference in the flavor between preground and fresh ground nutmeg. Nutmeg is traditional.

Normally I don’t put in rum or brandy isnce I like eggnog as it is. You have to make sure you don’t over do it with the alcohol or it will taste more like the booze than the eggnog

Putting cheap, toxic wine in your eggnog would produce some interesting gastronomical reactions. Your guests would be barfing all night. Break out the camcorder for that party.

Bailey's Irish Cream is delicious in eggnog. Gives it a sweet, exotic flavor. Low alcohol content, though, compared to the harder stuff.

I use two fingers of brandy over ice then same of 7-Up and top with same amount of egg nog. Stir carefully ‘cause it will want to froth over. Stir slowly and make it all smooth then top with a sprinkle of nutmeg. Delicious and the 7-Up cuts the extra egg nog out so it’s smoother. Cheers and Merry Christmas!

In Dixie we use ONLY WHISKEY.....maybe brandy for more delicate palates in some families but not mine

from Kentucky or Tennessee....yer pick

And we fold our nog with eggs, cream, sugar and the spirit....dont overdo the whiskey or it will overcook the egg

It is served chilled, promptly and in nice crystal with your finest silver to be spooned till the bottom...it is a child’s first sense of hard liquor usually

And shaved fresh nutmeg....

It is very common for Christmas eve get together...along with a sideboard of goodies

Never that carton nog though some like Goldenrod or Purity is ok as a snack

I have seen Mississippi egg nog requested served at wakes....it is that nostalgic and heartfelt for us

I have my family recipe which dates back to pre Choctaw treaty days for anyone who needs one

Btw ....lord what odd coments here...

Flavored liquor?

Bitter?

Wine?

U gotta be kidding?

Rum is actually tolerable but lacks the bite of a mash

Yes...dont waste premium aged stuff in a nog but not plastic jug junk either

Jack is ok....i use Rebel Yell in keeping in theme

Real nog has to have spirits....otherwise its bullshite whipped cream uncooked merengue....tasty but wholly different

We take egg nog very serious....like gumbo or which catfish producer rocks or which county has best watermelons or bradleys

Bradley Pink tomatoes?

I grew those once. The wasps loved them.

I'd love your eggnog recipe if you wouldn't mind sharing. Thanks.

“Jack is ok....i use Rebel Yell in keeping in theme”

Oh, yeah...Rebel Yell.

In my old age, I don’t do “nog” anymore. But, Rebel Yell added a bit of the culture to it. ;o)
