A Salem, Oregon womans desperate efforts to raise funds to treat her bone cancer were stifled by City officials. Jan Cline had been holding weekly yard sales trading her possessions for the cash she needs to pay medical bills. City rules limit the number of yard sales per address to three per year.
Harden Callas, spokesman for the Citys Community Development Department urged people to not lose sight of the bigger picture here. We know a lot of people are going to feel sympathetic toward Ms. Cline. But we cant let her or anyone else put their own personal needs ahead of the communitys needs.
Its a residential neighborhood, Callas went on. Allowing three yard sales a year is more than a generous concession to individual rights, if you ask me. Its unfortunate that she sick, but if we bend the rules for her others will want exceptions too.
Callas suggested that Cline go on Medicaid. That way, she can keep all her stuff and let the government pay her medical bills.

Got me. DOH!
I get that, and saying that rules are rules is one thing but claiming that government grants concessions to individual rights is a wholly different matter. That is what I was pointing out. Separate from this, I also don’t see why one should not run a business from a home.
Gawd!.....ain't that the truth!.....The satire pieces always get me!..They are the little pictures that represent the "Big Picture" that liberals remind us to not lose focus on and wish for......
If you home is in a business district or area zoned commercial, I have not problem with it either.
Actually, you have have a home office I could care less. But if you are having delivery trucks show up, or customers coming and going constantly in a residential neighbourhood, nope, it ain't right.
...is more than a generous concession to individual rights
WTF????
In other words, “Pay your taxes and kiss our asses and we MIGHT let you do something with your stuff... (which is actually OUR STUFF, we just let you think you own it!!!)
Took me a couple passes to pick up on it.
I reported it as forum abuse, here is my comment:
This is plain forum abuse.
We have enough trouble with government to not need some a**hole publishing stuff that will get people all fired up.
Agreed.
Not to mention FR is getting quoted more and more by other media.
This is lawsuit type stuff... seriously.

One of the very best things about the little town in Tx where I live is that they understand that a person should be able to haul their own stuff out in their own yard and sell it without permits and restrictions. It is coincidentally nestled against a military base, and full of retired military people.
Too many people were running retail businesses from their garages and front yards, causing the limiting of sales permitted. Three seems a bit stingy, but 20 a year ain’t your typical house cleanup!
I totally agree. While deceivingly could-happens,they are childish.
