What you would be looking at would be civil unrest in most mayor US cities and thousands of minor ones as well. Once the images of people looting and getting away with it hit the TV youre looking at thousands of bums thinking of doing the same thing and rushing out the door to the nearest store. That gets bad pretty fast. Youre talking about looting, fires, closed stores, destruction of vehicles and private property, and given US context some gang related activity taking advantage of the lawless situation as well to settle scores. While invasion of residential properties wont be as common as the looting of commercial property, it can happen in several cases.

Sam’s Club is having a “free” weekend (8/5-7) - you don’t have to be a member to shop (saves you 40 bucks).
You still have to be savvy, since the prices there aren’t always lower than your local market sales.
Granny, there’s a new product almost ready for its formal launch, Flo-Jack. www.flojack.com It’s a manual pump that is easy to install alongside your other equipment, and not all that expensive.
You really are a dumb blond arent you? You generally dont wait till after the disaster to prepare. What a idiot!
Since no doubt you are from the urban elite class. I want to know if you have ever dressed out a deer? A Black Bear? Have you ever picked berries and canned them? Have you ever grown a garden? Have you ever dried beans by simply hanging them? Have you ever rendered tallow from a black bear? Do you even have the any idea? How bout tanning a deer hide? You ever do any of these idiot? Huh? You really are not the sharpest knife in the drawer are you? Ever make head cheese? Have you ever had pickled tongue? How many spuds have you ever dug and put up for the winter? I bet you havent done any of those things. And oh yes DUMB BLOND..I have done ALL THOSE things. And for those coming around thinking to help themselves to my families hard work? They will find out what hell is like.
Ummm, that “Dumb blonde” has a complete, working, self-sufficient farm. The reason she doesn’t need last-minute preps is because she lives the lifestyle.
We recently had the original company that drilled the well out to replace some apparatus that had been on it for 25 years; so I reckon they did any alterations needed. Husband made a manual well-bucket (tube) from PVC Pipe that he could drop down into the well and draw out water. “Jerry Rigged” it so it would work; he’s handy that way. Couldn’t use a regular metal bucket, so the soft, smaller PVC Pipe is a better choice not to tear anything up down there. (I want to get one of those Bio-Sand water filters to use in a worst case scenario. We have sulfur water, and filter the fool out of it with modern filters; but those wouldn’t work in an emergency.) Our well is deep, and I’m glad for that. Quarries blasting out here broke open a sulfur vein into our well water table 24 yrs. ago; had good-tasting water at first. Tests don’t show anything nasty in well; just that sulfur is crummy tasting to me and nasty-feeling to bathe in. Twenty-five years it’s worked well for us with filtering.
I think this sort of thing (rioting) right now is no coincidence; I suspect it’s organized - worldwide to further the Communist agenda. I think Obama’s incendiary speeches are igniting it, in fact. Him, Code Pink, Ayers and Dohrne, and others. I also think we’ve been hit with the tail end of an agenda that has been in the works for years.
Yeah. It ain’t that easy. We learned a LOT during Y2K. Got a manual machine to “seal” the big jars we collected. A lot of the jars lost the “seal” and got the bad taste and smell of the bunker inside, ruined a lot of the food. Although much of the food that was left was still edible 12 yrs. later.
Now, we’re buying some Provident Pantry stuff, and MRE’s, also securing our foods in the gallon jars better, also sealed the bunker better to keep out moisture. Still aren’t set perfect; but we are improved. Simplified stuff a lot this go around. Aren’t trying to store enough to feed Coxie’s army this time. Storing a variety of foods, but more carefully this time.
Although - our Y2k storage came in handy. Work got scarce for about 2 yrs. after that, and we hardly had to buy any groceries.
Even foods that spoiled, we put in our compost, so really nothing much really got lost. - We also have a heirloom SEED storage in freezer and in sealed cans. Gardening a lot. Going at it from all angles, or at least trying to.
Well, yes, there would be some doubt. LOL
"I want to know if you have ever dressed out a deer?"
Mule or whitetail? Killed with a bow, rifle or muzzleloader? Nevermind, 'cause I've done them all. Elk too. Beaver??? Yep, skinned and ate one in April. Are you familiar with nutria? They are also very tasty. Turkey, racoon, squirrel, chicken ... pretty much you name it. Here in elite urban NE Louisiana, we will kill and try to eat pretty much anything that walks, swims or crawls across the yard. I'm not even gonna start explaining alligator to ya.
"Have you ever picked berries and canned them?"
Yes. Berries, choke cherries, crabapples, peaches, figs ... I could go on and on. I'm canning cowpeas today and have been for the past 2 weeks. Can meat too.
"Have you ever grown a garden?"
Only acres. Please feel free to review any of our weekly gardening threads. Oh, and I sell the excess produce at my own stand, which helps fund my hunting and fishing habits.
"Have you ever dried beans by simply hanging them?"
No. I prefer to leave them on the stalk and thrash them with a combine. LOL
"Do you even have the any idea?"
I don't claim to be Daniel Boone or worthy of traveling with the likes of Lewis & Clark, but yes, I think I might have an idea.
"Ever make head cheese?"
Nope, hate the stuff.
"Have you ever had pickled tongue?"
Don't like it pickled, so no, but I certainly could.
"How many spuds have you ever dug and put up for the winter?"
More than I can count, and I'm beginning to wonder what the hell would be your point.
"I bet you havent done any of those things."
I'll take the bet. Make it easy on yourself.
You're the one writing about 'shrink-wrapping' (plastic made tight with hot air) food and getting a kick out of the food storage folks. Your comments have made my afternoon. I haven't had a good laugh like you've caused in quite some time.
I appreciate your comment, Ellendra. I didn’t see it until I had already responded to Mr/Miss crz.
Uhhh. An easy way to skin animals is this: Shoot animal (squirrel, rabbit, deer). Pull animal through the knothole in your fence backwards. This may require an assistant to help you pull the carcass through the knothole. Be sure to do it backwards. :o)
I guess the “reset” button would finally be
pressed.

Gosh, Twinkie. Shut up. You’ve posted the past 3 replies; and now you’re replying to yourself!
>> “How long will the water last in those plastic jugs you get at the grocery store? <<

In most cases they will start to leak in a few months.
What you have to do is take them out of the boxes and break the plastic seal on the valve and snap it out in operating position to keep them from leaking.

A juice bottle works better!
I’m told headcheese can be good when made right. Personally, I’d rather add that part of the pig in with the sausage meat. Or just simmer it a bit and feed it to the chickens.
The Keltec SU-16 variants are a good, budget minded, launcher for .223.
If you google “pedal powered pump” or “treadle pump” you can find hundreds of designs for homemade human-powered waterpumps, at least one of which should work for your needs.
