Yeah. It ain’t that easy. We learned a LOT during Y2K. Got a manual machine to “seal” the big jars we collected. A lot of the jars lost the “seal” and got the bad taste and smell of the bunker inside, ruined a lot of the food. Although much of the food that was left was still edible 12 yrs. later.
Now, we’re buying some Provident Pantry stuff, and MRE’s, also securing our foods in the gallon jars better, also sealed the bunker better to keep out moisture. Still aren’t set perfect; but we are improved. Simplified stuff a lot this go around. Aren’t trying to store enough to feed Coxie’s army this time. Storing a variety of foods, but more carefully this time.
Although - our Y2k storage came in handy. Work got scarce for about 2 yrs. after that, and we hardly had to buy any groceries.
Even foods that spoiled, we put in our compost, so really nothing much really got lost. - We also have a heirloom SEED storage in freezer and in sealed cans. Gardening a lot. Going at it from all angles, or at least trying to.
