Today is the two year anniversary of Sarah Palin resigning from being Governor of Alaska.

In the light of that resignation here is a piece written before the midterm election which highlights the impact that resignation had on the election and the future of the Republican party.

[He had no way to confirm this, but that was what he was told by a close connection to Sarah.]

I knew my comment would get more response than I could answer. I shouldn't have called her a loser with such a broad stroke, she's not. She has great role to play in the upcoming elections as a kinda kingmaker, but if she was gonna win the general election she would have brought in the votes to put McCain over the top. I think for every person who loves Palin, another person can't stand her.

McCain was the moderates dream. War hero, worked with the Dems, Senate Maverick (of course we know that means he went against Bush often) the big thing missing was the Conservatives hated the guy as a backstabber. In comes Palin, the candidate to bring in the Conservatives to the fold, instead she drove out some and brought in others. If McCain picked Huckabee he might have won.

That is her role. She is also a reason some seats were lost. A Palin endorsement in the right spot puts you over the top, a Palin endorsement in the wrong spot loses an otherwise winnable seat. I will give her much credit for her role in the House elections though.

McCain’s suspension of his campaign to vote for TARP, his refusal to blame Dems for the crisis that THEY created, and his unwillingness to hammer away at the Punk’s radical connections were the main reason that he lost. No one could have helped Juan enough for him to win. And they wasted Sarah, giving her standard boilerplate pabulum to deliver in her speeches. Gone was the energetic, on fire woman who delivered her convention speech flawlessly after her prompter broke a few minutes into the speech.

It might have been considered 'courageous', but most would have considered it ungracious. Even JD Hayworth stated that he understood why Sarah endorsed McCain. If JD was content with it, why can everyone else be so, as well?

Nope, he wouldn't have won, even with Huckabee. Those vaunted 'moderates' never had any intention of voting for McCain. They wanted to prove to the world how 'moderate' they were by voting for the black guy. Face it, if a white man with similar credentials to Obama had been the Democrat nominee, McCain would likely have wiped the floor with him, no matter WHO his Veep had been.

The difference in 2012 is going to be that many of those moderates have gotten their white guilt out of their systems. Now that they've seen what Obama's inexperience has wrought, they may feel themselves free to vote for someone else they believe can fix the mess he's created. Sarah has had experience in fixing messes; she did so in Alaska. When she is the candidate, with the complete stage, rather than coming in during the last two months as the Veep, in the background, I believe she will be able to woo many of those Independents and Moderates.

Here is an article that is honest in scope and points out the reality of who and what Palin is. Unfortunately, many here have placed her in a divine category, worthy of sainthood. She is a good person, but giving her this magical “perfect” status is alarming.

No two situations are precisely alike. Dynamics will differ, and the individuals involved in each situation have their own unique records of public service to consider.

Perhaps you should make the case for why you feel the same reasoning should apply to Rick Santorum's endorsement of Arlen Spector.

Actually her role is usually leading from elective office, Palin did not only help us win seats, but she helped move seats farther to the right, she had an incredible win record, I think she was involved in over 60 races, which seats do you think she cost us?

Either loyalty is a legitimate excuse for supporting a RINO against a conservative in a primary or it isn't. I don't see any difference between Santorum's support for Spector and Palin's for McCain.
